So, yep. Another Attack on Titan pic.

This is actually based on a scene from a fanfic I’m thinking about writing where Eren has a nightmare where he sees his other self and it’s trying to tell him something, but it can’t get the words out.
The words in the pic are also from a fanfic I’m currently writing where Eren is beginning to question how separate he and his Titan self are, physically and mentally.

My theory goes like this. Titan Eren is different from other Titans in that he’s stronger and smarter, reaction more than just instinct and on emotion and even tactical planning depending on Eren’s state of mind. Before he transforms, depending on his emotion and focus before his transformation the Titan reacts to the goal, once again responding to a certain degree depending on how control Eren is in at the time. The more control he has, the more he’s reacting and the more he remembers when he recovers.
At first I just thought the Titan was nothing more than a lump of flesh Eren could control, or lose control, whenever, but given how he declared ‘I’ll eat you!’ when he was losing his mind while fighting the Female Titan and even to a certain extent when he attacked Mikasa, it’s made me question that. Those times, when he’s lost control, it’s like the Titan was the one acting on its own instincts even if they were kick-started by Eren’s emotions from the beginning, such as his agitation towards Mikasa or his hostility towards the Female Titan. While I think that other times Eren was somewhat in control and aware of what he was doing, in those moments I think that’s when the ‘other’ guy took the reins and was in control, taking over the mind and emotions of its human host like some kind of parasite and doing its own thing.
I won’t go so far as to say the Titan is a separate personality, but I will say it’s a separate SOMETHING, something that Eren probably can’t understand himself and will probably manifest itself through time the more he uses his abilities. Perhaps it can even grow INTO another personality, depending on how in tune Eren and the Titan become. Maybe finding the blur between the lines of the human and the Titan is the challenge of being a shifter, and could in part be significant to the secrets of the Titans altogether.
In the end, Eren has to ask himself is it really HIM that’s doing ALL of the actions of the Titan, even the bad ones? Or is it something else that’s taking over and growing in his mind like a tumor? And if it is something else, what will become of his humanity?
In time, will he be faced with an internal struggle over his body and mind? Will he have to either fight against his other side and lock it away, embrace it and become more connected to his Titan self, or lose the battle so the Titan completely takes over and he loses his mind forever? Maybe getting his mind locked in that fever dream where he was with his parents as a child permanently?

Who knows, this is all just speculation, but given some of his strange behavior as a Titan I really do wonder how much is EREN reacting and how much is the TITAN reacting?
