Description So I wanted to do some original work again.

The Dreadora Tree Guardain's name is Tharndorn and the Fairy's name is Emiliana.

Yeaahhh, remember my Mermaid picture and my ‘theories’ on a what if situation if they were real. Well, I thought I could do the same with Fairies too, only it’s a little more implausible since they do have magic. Just hear me out.

--

Deep in the old Swamps of our planet lie an ancient and immense power rarely ever seen by human eyes. There are a series of trees that never grow leaves, never hold birds in its branches, and never seem to die from age. They were named by locals as Dreadora Trees.
In old religions, trees were thought of to be magical or mythical for whatever reason. Few know that this train of thought originally stemmed from these strange Dreadora Trees, and with very good reason.
The thing is the Dreadora Trees are actually not trees at all, but spirits and souls locked within the bark. These are the Dreadora Guardians.
Dreadora Guardians are magical, powerful, and extremely dangerous. They are unpredictable spirits, and anything can set them off. Despite this, they do tend to have different personalities like any person. Some are more lenient than others; some are solemn and lonely, while the rest are ruthless and crafty. Whatever the case, they are all deadly and it is best to avoid their part of the swamp as much as possible. You will know you are near a Dreadora trees by its lack of leaves no matter what time of the year, and if it opens it’s glowing eyes or mouth at you.
The colors of the eyes and mouth vary for unknown reasons. If they keep their eyes and mouth closed they look just like any bare tree in the Swamp, so they are very hard to detect.

Though the Dreadora trees themselves are barely known, what is common in Folklore are their servants, the Fairyfolk.
Fairyfolk, unlike the Merfolk, are actually very close to how their originally described in stories. Tiny, beautiful or handsome human/humanlike creatures with brilliant wings with long unruly hair and mystical eyes.
The Fae are a far more complicated people than what is known, however, as there are few stories of their relations with the Dreadora Trees.
As it turns out, the Fae are actually more connected with the Dreadora guardians than anyone realizes. They are an extension of themselves. Every time a Dreadora tree is ‘grown’, they grow a single flower of their color choice on one of their branches. After a full day and night, the flower blooms and a Fairy will emerge from the petals. This Fairy was created by the Guardian and is an extension of the Guardian’s soul, a piece of it. The flower it emerged from will act as it’s sleeping place on the tree from now on.
At first the Fairy may seem a little bit of a mindless slave, serving its creator without much trouble at all, but in time it can develop a personality of it’s own. It really depends on the Guardian and how social it lets it’s fairy become.
Genders from the spirits within the trees don’t affect the genders of the Fairy because it is the Guardian’s choice. For example, a ‘male’ Dreadora Tree is capable of creating a female Fairy, but is also just as capable of creating a male Fairy instead.

From then on, the Dreadora Guardian and Fairy will share a symbiotic relationship. The magical tree will keep the Fairy protected, fed, grow just enough Spanish moss to cloth the Fairy, and constant wisdom.
In return, the Fairy will serve the Tree, give it constant companionship, and be its mobile eyes and ears. Being Trees, the Dreadora Guardians can’t move around, but their Fairies can. So often the Fae seen far from the Swamps are really looking around to report back to their Tree masters.
While the Guardians are usually antisocial and rarely communicate with anyone else except their own Fairy, the Fairies aren’t. Like human culture, they are social and friendly towards Fae they like and not so friendly against those they dislike. They have their own art, music, culture, and a language far more old than Latin.
However, there is a darker side to this Culture. The Guardians, no matter the type, constantly need energy for the Spirit inside the tree to be bound to it else float away into the beyond. The reason they barely grow anything except moss for their Fairy’s to be cloths and small fruit for the Fairies to be fed is because this takes a lot of energy to do so.
Because they can’t grow leaves for very long else risk disappearing, the Spirit needs another source of nutrition that Photosynthesis can’t provide.
Life energy.
There are no birds nor animals seen very often around their area of the swamps because their corpses are most likely in the murky waters, entangled in the Dreadora Tree’s roots and being absorbed. The Trees ensnare unwary prey when an animal brushes up against branches and roots sticking upward out of the water. These sensitive roots alert the Guardian and cause it to react, wrapping the roots beneath the muck around the prey and dragging it into the mud and water below, drowning it. A single tree can feed on a few corpses for many weeks before ti needs to catch prey again.
Their Fairies are the ones that tend to lure victims towards their Tree Guardians, dazzling preu with their beauty or wings.
All those stories about Children or Humans disappearing because of Fairies were unfortunately for these reasons. Sometimes, Guardians won’t hesitate on sending their Fairies out towards humans and luring them into their Swamps, only to be trapped by the Dreadora Tree and drowned for food. Many unwary travelers have met this fate by simply getting too close to the trees.
This is what makes them so dangerous, the fact that they can and will eat anything that gets too close.
Like Merfolk, sometimes they eat humans because of spite, sometimes fear, or sometimes because of territory. The Dreadora Trees are called Guardians because they are there to protect themselves and their part of the swamp, and any other living thing that comes unannounced into their Swamp is perceived as an immediate threat. This is also why so little is known about them, because the few humans that have met a Dreadora Guardian are most likely dead.

There are exceptions, though.

With the right precautions, a person can safely pass through these Swamps if they know how. Various methods that are known to repel fairies like bread, bells, cold iron, and such can be worn or carried by the traveler. This will not only repel Fairies, but the trees won’t attack even if the traveler brushes up against their trigger branches. It’s unknown why these items reject the Spirits in the trees, but it works. Just be sure you keep it on you at all times.

Another way to avoid death is to get on good terms with one of the Dreadora Guardians or it’s Fairy. Though it’s possible to achieve Friendship with one or the other, it’s recommended to first attempt friendship with the Fairy as the Guardian is more dangerous and is likely to be lenient if it’s Fairy likes you. Try to avoid questions about it's human life, though as that's a touchy subject. Only their Fairy companions know their real name to, back when they were humans and it's very rare for them to reveal this to anyone else.
There are different ways to make friends with a Fairy, but it depends more on the person. Fairies can sense the true self of a person, and will only take interest in kind hearted Humans they deem worthy of respect. If a Fairy has taken interest in you and you know it, act on it as Fairies can easily get bored.
You can befriend the Fairy by showing trust. Hold out your hand and speak calmly and respectively to them. Offer things like flower nectar and fruit since they like sweet things or even pastries, but remember no bread.
If they trust you enough, they may offer to take you to their Dreadora Guardian. From that point on proceed with caution. Though the Fairy may be your friend, the Guardian may not be so forgiving. Though most of the time the Dreadora Tree may allow your friendship with it’s Fairy, depending on how the Guardian feels about Humans it may think the friendship is too risky to itself and it’s Fairy, so it will eat you anyway. Other times it will completely ignore it’s Fairy’s wishes and kill you for whatever reason. So please be careful if you decide to make friends with a Fairy.
Note, if you refuse to meet the Fairy’s Guardian she/he will see this as offensive and promptly ends it’s friendship with you.

The other way is to give an offering to any of the Dreadora Trees. It can be almost anything alive from a small animal to even a Human sacrifice, once again depends on the Guardian.
After you give it an offering, you not only will get safe passage through the forest but the Dreadora Tree may open it’s eyes and mouth and actually speak to you itself. Normally, it has it’s Fairy do all for the talking or messaging for it. It will ask you a question, “What is it you want from me?”
Then it will proceed to do one request of your choice if it’s in its power.
The only ones it won’t do are requests that involve any harm to itself, its fairy, or the swamp. It also won’t answer questions about its origins as those are sacred secrets.
If you dare disrespect the Guardian it will kill you.

Above all though, you must never harm a Fairy. If you capture or hurt a Guardian’s Fairy you will never be safe again unless the Dreadora Tree itself is destroyed. Dreadora Guardians, no matter their personality, are very aggressive and protective when it comes to their Fairies. If ever hurt one it will know about it, and somehow or some way the Spirit will find you and make you suffer a slow, painful, death, even if it has to leave it’s tree body behind and disappear after it’s revenge is satisfied.

God help you if you’re in the Dreadora Tree’s presence when you harm the Fairy, because it will make sure that you drown slowly before finally killing you.
Fairies are so important to them because they hold a lot of their magic and a piece of their soul within them. If they die, the Dreadora Tree will be permanently weakened, forever alone, and never able to create another Fairy companion again.
So they protect them with everything they have either because of it’s own safety or because of a genuine love for their Fairy companion.

If the Dreadora Tree dies though, the Fairy will no longer have the strength to live. The Guardian’s magic is primarily what keep the Fae alive, and without them they can’t survive.
So they are both equally protective of each other, whether out of love or convenience. This particular couple in this picture happens to care about each other very much.

Overall, it is best to avoid both of these creatures, and be careful. If you ever find bare trees in the dark part of the Swamp where no animals roam, leave while you still can.
