I actually think it is possible for irkens could reproduce young, since in a way they very much much remind me of modern day insects.

Well, naturally, yes, but I take evidence from the show into account. They represented Irken society as highly controlling, concerned entirely on power, and very advanced technologically. My personal belief is that natural reproduction has been "bred" out of Irkens through genetic engineering. We saw they were grown in tubes in the show, and it seemed even casual friendship was highly discouraged. That makes me think ALL Irkens are just genes mixed together by machines and grown in a tube. The Empire's all about efficiency, and natural reproduction just isn't efficient.

Well your partially right about tube born being better than natural reproduction but that would normally be the case for Military & War, I mean look at this way, which would you prefer a Smeetry to produce tube born irkens by the hundreds that are easy to replace but are more likely to have defects or would you prefer Natural born irkens which harder to replace but are less likely to have defects?
Moving on from that topic theirs also this, have you ever heard of gene splicing?

The-Snowlion In reply to Zxi-Lesk [2012-02-13 23:11:00 +0000 UTC]
I don't see how natural-borns would be less likely to have defects. In fact, "mutation" is incredibly common in naturally made babies (of any species). If we assume that Irkens have perfected this system of mechanically mixing genes and growing their babies in tubes, birth defects are much LESS likely. Each gene could be processed and screened for any mutations.
Plus, pregnancy and raising babies takes up valuable time. Why have individuals waste their time making babies when they can contribute to strong military forces?
And yes, I have heard of gene splicing.

Since when does a Strong military force contribute to anything? Name 2 outside the IZ universe.
Also since when does raising babies take up valuable time, especially in scitch & luka's case where they're on a planet outside the Irken Empire.

1. You've never seen the show, have you? The very first episode is EVERYTHING military. Thousands of "brave Irken soldiers" (Tallest Red says this in the convention hall) attend the "Great Assigning of Operation Impending Doom II" for planetary conquest. The Irken Empire is an EMPIRE. Empires are Imperial? Imperialism is done by the means of military conquest.
2. Have you never seen GATTACA? Go watch it, learn something about the importance of artificial genetic selection.
3. Are you not aware of maternity leave? Working women who are pregnant get several months off from their jobs around the second trimester of their pregnancy. Guess what? That means they don't work. In the Irken Empire, pregnant females wouldn't be able to contribute to their Empire for half the pregnancy, and also several months after giving birth because newborns require SO much attention and care during the first four to six months of their life.
We're talking close to a year of not being able to work for your Empire.
Now put that on a scale of the Irken Empire, millions of females potentially pregnant or caring for newborns. Hard hit for the Empire's efficiency in galactic conquest.
4. Seriously, a discussion about differing opinions on what is canon for Invader Zim and what is not is fine. There's nothing wrong with it, unless you have absolutely nothing to back up your argument. Seriously, back off. Snowy's only having some fun with the derps, leave her alone.

The Irken Empire is all about conquest and destroying or imprisoning other races, which requires a strong military. Therefore, their concerns would be on building a large and powerful military in order to complete their main goal conquering every planet in sight. I'm not saying having a huge military is going to get you everything, but it's what we see the Empire valuing in the show.
In the case of humans, raising a baby takes 18 or MORE years of your life. So yes, it takes valuable time. Also, Luka and Scitch are rebels against the Empire (though both born from tubes like other Empire Irkens).
You do realize you're arguing with me about a fictional cartoon, right? I was only stating my personal opinions as a fan, not forcing them on anyone. This discussion has gotten very irritating and far out of hand.
