Mentioning Milaul
Autumn, Year 773 of the New Age
Widow's Hollow, Blackwood
It had been seven years since the lithe doe had last sought out the stag, Hagen. Indeed, she even surprised herself with the deed. What was she thinking after all of these years. . . Milaul had grown into a fine doe, one that Maul was incredibly proud of. She was a beauty worthy of Uir's praise, and she had inherited from her mother the rarest gift of magic. It was for this reason that she looked for him once more. He was a powerful stag, now the Elder Witch for several years and a source of guidance for many. Yes, he was strong. A worthy match for her.
And yet. . . there was still some part of her that was afraid to see him. It had been well over a decade since they had conceived their first fawn, Hagen kindly obliging her then as he had with Milaul. She had always been independent. Laul expected nothing less of her daughters, adopted or biological. And Mirak had looked so like his father. . . it hurt to even look into the face of the stag. Yet she had decided all those years ago to try again, to give herself a second chance at raising a child. And, now that she was grown, Maul once again felt the tug of nostalgia- like a long lost friend it had crept up upon her, reminding her of the joys of bearing a fawn for her great Mother. The passing of the King had not helped, and the loss was felt by the entirety of the herd. His death had triggered within her the desire to find complete recompense, to finally find inner peace after so many long years of turmoil. Milaul had helped to hold back the sadness. The hind was truly the light of her mother's life.
She had found him where she expected, in Widow's Hollow. Quietly, she came up to him, nodding her head in a respectful gesture, her long, ebony locks cascading about her neck like the leaves of the Widow trees. She had drawn in a deep breath, and looked at him solemnly. In the corners of her vision, she saw the dancing vision of a fawn, his small form still gangly and awkward. The softest of smiles curled her lips and the little figure was gone.
"Hagen," she murmured softly, "I have come to ask once more for a favor."
