There is something so ethereal a sad about this piece, which is very fitting for Hotaru. I love the concept.

Jeeze, when I first looked at this, I felt strongly that it was familiar but I couldn't place it until I read your description. Sailor Saturn! This painting is just awesome and doesn't look like a typical fan art, it looks way better since it is so unique in back story. I'm having a hard time really getting my feeling across so I'll just say that I LOVE it!

i like it but she looks nothing like a mermaid whats the point of having a theme.

I find it rather strange in so way. It took me awhile to figure out that the mermiad then was in there. And i guess from the looks of it it's from outer space. Very stange and different but unique in some way.

Why does she need to look like a mermaid? I purposefully did not make her a mermaid. I used the mermaid theme with the mermaid SKELETONS scattered all around her. The POINT, dear friend, is that she, the scout of destruction, destroyed all mermaids.

Oh. Ok. when i first looked at the picture i couldn't really tell about the mermaid having a theme but it quite different and cool, but i do have a question What is that that black thing that surrounding her? I thought that was a fish she destory or a huge mermaid or something. But either than that it very good.

There is a total of four mermaid skeletons in the picture; only one of them has a visible skull, and the closest one in the foreground is a silhouette ^^

OkThanks 4 explaining the piece but sailormoon saturn is my favorite scout & she is the destroyer of planets I would hate to see her kill mermaids.

Well, I still used the mermaid theme, I just didn't make HER a mermaid! There are just dead mermaids all around her xD

;____; thank you! I've had a few people from the contest complaining that I didn't used the theme at all because she herself isn't a mermaid... >_<

So what if she isn't a mermaid? You took a mythological feel that incorporated the theme, and that's what's most important. Besides, anybody can draw a mermaid. Where's the originality? Your piece is beautiful, elegant, and actually draws out emotions from the viewer.

I love the fact that you choose to do something different with the whole mermaid theme; this suits Saturn much better then her actually being a mermaid. I love her pose in this, it's beautiful, and I'm so glad you chose white too! So many people (myself included) always draw her in black, it's nice to see some variation.

My first thought when I read the contest theme was "hotaru + mermaid = hotaru mermaid!" But, I have this thing where I try to never EVER go with my very first thought. So I sat around for a while and let me brain do some twisting about until this popped up! I was going to put her in black originally, but I wanted her to look ancient and timeless, so I kind of started thinking of greek and egyptian clothing where it is mostly depicted in lighter shades. Plus, as evil as she seems, I wanted her to come off as not COMPLETELY bad! xD

I defiantly agree with NOT go gin with the first impression; it gives more interesting ideas time to grow. The ancient and timeless look suits her so well in this too!

Oh thank you! I suppose I didn't really have any particular intention with her design, other than wanting to make her look ancient and almost timeless. Egyptian goes well with that! ^_^
