"Ithilien will be free from these wretched abominations. Let Caebellan guide your blade, your arrows, your spells! The greatest glory is to die coated in human blood, children of the Dakha!"

-----------------------------------------------------------

Prickly and frustrated, she left her seat and begun to long walk to the Apex. It was one of the highest chambers in all of the Shadow-Realm, the crown of a tall topless tower, where the High Council would gather to decide matters petty and complex. Craning her neck to behold the naked sky above her, Tezarya found herself holding her breath at its beauty. So dark, so incredibly vast, a blanket of distant stars.
Around her floated miniature planets, replicas of worlds the Shakra had conquered. She paused to look at one of them, a black-and-purple orb clouded in smoke and shadows, save from a large splotch of auburn and green. It had been a pathetic world, Tezarya remembered. She had not set foot there herself more than once, and she had not liked it. Before the Shakra had come, the humans had warred for centuries with the faes; bloody, crude wars that had not left many humans. The survivors had fled under the ground, as the faes later would aswell. I hope they slaughtered each other. Pathetic species. Tezarya tossed the orb aside, and it returned to float midair, as if unsure of its destination.

- The Price of Knowledge, chapter 7
------------------------------------------------------------

The Shakra's invasion a century ago was far from the first time the world had known war. Dweller scripts go as far back as ten thousand years, vividly describing the bloody wars between the increasing population of humans and the old race of faes. Having honed their skill in magic for eons, the faes answered the humans' advances with brutality and ruthlessness, going so far during one of these wars that they almost wiped out the humans completely. To their fury, a small group evaded capture and disappeared into the wild, robbing the faes of the last drop of victory and secured the survival of mankind. Many fae leaders are celebrated as legends, a female known only as the fae queen one of them, her true name lost to history. She is prayed to for guidance and strength by both males and females. Her fate, much like her name, was forgotten or never written down.

Fate would eventually mock the faes for how they'd watered their precious nature with blood. A century ago, the Shakra set their eyes on the war-torn world of the humans and the faes, and saw potential in it. The humans suffered massive losses to the demons, but the faes proved to be very sensitive towards the corruptive touch of the shadows that now infested their world, and the ancient race, already thin in numbers, dwindled and faded. Together with some of their old enemies, the faes and the humans who would be known as the Dwellers hid under the ground whilst the shamans and hunters known as the Freerunners defied fear and stayed beneath the sky. But still, the faes continued to succumb to the shadows, and now the only proof of their existence is their descendants with mixed blood.

Okay, so, I could literally sing your praises for days on your art.  Who couldn't?  But I ESPECIALLY love and adore the skin shading you've done on this lovely lady.  It's absolutely stunning and I can't stop looking at it.  And the simple yet elegant background is a great setting.  Your vines?  Gorgeous.  Super duper lovely piece.

She's lovely! Her hair is magnificent and those golden eyes are very striking. Is this a whole book you're writing to go with the pictures (or rather, are the pictures illustrations for a book you're writing)?

The-Moonbound In reply to Sinspunkt [2015-08-15 04:09:35 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much Heheh well I'm writing on two projects right now, the main one is indeed becoming a book whenver I can finish it This is a side project (that I'm very attached to nonetheless) and I am indeed drawing up the characters and scenes from it I've got a couple of chapters of The Price of Knowledge here in my gallery, but I'm very private about the main project (in case it does become a book, I don't want to leave spoilers around online - ambitious, I know ) and generally I don't draw scenes from that one Unfortunately

Sinspunkt In reply to The-Moonbound [2015-08-15 11:52:32 +0000 UTC]

I think you're very wise not to reveal too many of your ideas. Concepts and characters are so easily stolen and it'd be nigh on impossible to prove they were yours. Plus it just gives you peace of mind. Good luck with getting it published. It's good to be ambitious! Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing more of your illustrations. Your characters are beautiful!

Argh! More hints of more chapters

I loved reading more of the Fae sweetie though some might say they deserved their fate, they are still so epic Then with their eyes turned elsewhere, the demons descended on them <3

Erf! The queen is absolutely exquisite sweetheart! I adore the more muted, natural colours compared to the more vivid colours of the demon's! And the details are mind blowing! I love the vines as well! Oh she is amazing sweetie, is she going to re-appear into the world again?

The-Moonbound In reply to The-Cerzz [2015-08-15 04:21:37 +0000 UTC]

Yes...!

Perhaps, I think fate has its own way to deal with balance The humans weren't saints either, they just didn't know how to make war as well as the faes did I wanted the faes to be savage and cruel rather than the typical graceful and wise elven race - they're not exactly evil, but their reactions and retaliation is def more than necessary

Thank you Indeed, being creatures of nature, I imagined them to not have as bright colors as the demons Hehehe, sadly the Fae Queen is gone, but her legend remains She will be spoken of though

The-Cerzz In reply to The-Moonbound [2015-08-15 19:01:51 +0000 UTC]

I love these 'delicate', beautiful elves being war machines it's a genius twist Were they, as a species, oppressed in olden days? I just wonder if that's why their reactions are a touch OTT

Indeed, that's beautiful reasoning it makes perfect sense <3 Aww brilliant I can't wait to learn more of her sweetie

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Moonbound In reply to The-Cerzz [2015-08-16 10:33:57 +0000 UTC]

Aw thank you I like the idea of elves being more towards the 'bad' side, feels like they are often portrayed as noble but arrogant, I think that's why I never really liked using elves myself in my own worlds, hehe Though these are faes and not elves, they are usually described as... well, fairies Creatures of peace and good will, which is pretty much the opposite of what I wanted my faes to be like I suppose unless you are a huge fan of elves, it's easy to think of the faes as the bad guys anyway, since they warred with the humans (and most of us are human )
Hm, I haven't given it much thought tbh, maybe they were and as a result they just adapted to a more cruel, savage mindset. They are a very, very old race though, so old that they preceed the High Council, so surely they've had to endure some hard times and war, perhaps the oppression of another superior race now gone extinct

You are so kind, thank you

Argh! I'm so very sorry sweetheart! I called your Fae's elves didn't I? I'm so sorry! Argh! Yes! I adore your Fae's going against the way they're 'supposed' to be Is there going to be a sexy, evil mixed blood coming up?
That sounds feasible definitely, like its a mindset they've -had- to adopt to survive and they've had it and passed it down for so long now that they don't know how to be any different <3

*grins some* aww Hun I'm eager

Aw no not that I can recall XD I only mentioned them being faes and not elves because I had just talked about what elves were typically like, myself Mixed blood between what, humans and faes or do you mean something else?
Indeed, it might be like that I don't know if I'll ever dig too deep into it, I like it when there's a bit of speculation left to be had

Aw you know you're always welcome to ask questions if you ever have any

That's alright then, I just didn't want to offend <3 Humans and Faes I was meaning BUT I guess there could have been some raping going on by the demons.. its another crummy fact of war, so I guess there COULD be mixed Fae Demons, or in the generations since there could be a Fae-Demon-Human mix.. lol
Oh indeed, it certainly makes for better storytelling to know what to and what not to reveal..

Thank you very much sweetie

The-Moonbound In reply to The-Cerzz [2015-08-16 13:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Hehe no worries, it was directed at me There may have been human/fae mixes earlier on, but in that case they were rare and would probably have died quite early in their life, as they wouldn't be accepted by either kind and thus not prioritized for food, healthcare, ect. The faes may be savage but they aren't really about raping and conquering as the Shakra, they are more about, erm, 'defending at all cost' But any mix with a Shakra demon would have been raised in the Shadow-Realm, as the demons would bring the captured females with them as they leave, and as evident with Tezarya's childhood the hybrid offspring is given the lowliest tasks and the lowest status, only equal to pleasure slaves (which again usually means they die quite early). Not to mention if a fae female was captured and brought to the Shadow-Realm, she'd probably die very quickly due to the shadows

While it's not a secret to the Freerunners that the Dwellers have fae blood in them, few other races of demons ever see or hear of the dokh-shakras, due to their low status and all that I also had a headcanon that since they are all humanoids but not that closely related, they'd have issue even producing offspring (that's one of the reasons someone like Nylissa is so rare), resulting in quite high rate of miscarriages and stillborns :/ Not sure if the high mortality rate would also affect dogs and wolves in the wild, I haven't really looked into how easy/hard it is for them to mix, but I do know that the offspring isn't really suitable to keep as pets

The-Cerzz In reply to The-Moonbound [2015-08-16 22:22:16 +0000 UTC]

Awww Hun that sounds like such a miserable life for the poor guys who's only crime was their birth.. *snuggles the hybrids all protective-like* No cost is too high to defend their people, I'm guessing? I adore how well thought out this world is sweetheart, I can put any situation to you and you can work out what'd happen in the given situation beautifully Erf, the poor girls :/ What would the demons' way of thinking be here? They'd want the Fae females to die quickly because it'd prove how potent their shadow link was, or they'd want the status of having an enemy/'conquered race' in their employ for the longest?

Oh hun I love that headcanon even if it's pretty tragic :/ (*tightly huggles the Nylissa because she's amazing*) The poor sweethearts
Erm.. I really don't know how wolves and dogs get on with mating, but indeed, they have bred dog hybrids called Saarloos Wolfdogs I believe and no, as much as I adore hybrids I could never deal with the responsibility of having a half-wild pet

The-Moonbound In reply to The-Cerzz [2015-08-21 13:21:27 +0000 UTC]

Hehe indeed, but I think it's realistic in the setting where the guys are at war Indeed, the faes are very protective of their land. I imagine that during their golden age, they had vast forest cities, but as their numbers dwindled they couldn't protect them all, and after the Shakra invasion they are infested with the shadows and haunted by Them, like a twisted nightmare of what they once were
Aw thank you I like building worlds
Hm well it's not for certain that the Shakra would have realized that the faes are sensitive to the shadows. They always bring female captives back with them, I imagine because they are 'exotic', you know like raising a lion cub or a rare snake. So assuming they didn't know, it would be more about obtaining something rare, a prize, not about cruelty or experimenting. But if they did know, some of them would def bring captives just to see who made it the longest :/

Aw
IRL I'm not sure In TPoK dogs are domesticated but during the invasion those who would become the Freerunners just brought their pets with them into the wild, and thus they met wolves. Indeed they are supposedly hard to control and def half-wild :/

Sadly, I agree babe <3
As dreadful as it sounds, I'd love to see the remnants of the Fae-lands, gnarled and twisted black by Them. I imagine any descendants would be hellishly inflamed by the notion if it was even possible for them to get close enough to see it <3
And you do it so beautifully, I could almost picture it walking through the landscape
aww I have the saddest image of a Fae female in a cage and fettered like a wild beast, gasping weakly, pleading her captor to please set her free. Would -any- Shakra listen to her pleas? Are any slaves rebellious enough to even try? I think I already know the answers but my hopeless romantic won't let me rest <3

awww! I want a FreeRunner to have a long-eared hound, no idea why, I just wanna see him all there looking dopey

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Moonbound In reply to The-Cerzz [2015-09-01 10:44:55 +0000 UTC]

Aw I'm not sure if the descendants - the Dwellers that is - would be horrified on a personal level as much on just a... omfg what happened here scale They know what they are, but it's likely been a decade or two since the last known fae died
Oh gosh certainly not, having captured and brought an 'exotic creature' they'd be far too precious and rare to release :/ They don't really keep them in cages though, they get a collar around their neck with a gemstone infused with magic So while they are rather free, as in the slaves can walk around and perform duties in the seat/halls of their mistress, they don't get imprisoned unless they've committed a crime (like Vazek or the Freerunner woman in the starter)

Lol aw Never did any thinking of what kind of breeds they'd have XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Cerzz In reply to The-Moonbound [2015-09-01 14:11:24 +0000 UTC]

Lol I love that reaction Do they generally, as a result of their blood, have a superiority complex over FreeRunners? I know Nylissa is a sweetheart, but I'm not sure if she is the rule or the exception <3
Oooh so they can wander, I was going to say that that might mean they were vulnerable to being stolen, but I guess the demons are not the sort to hide what they've gained so that would put stealing something unique against them <3

Hehe aww

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Moonbound In reply to The-Cerzz [2015-09-01 16:36:11 +0000 UTC]

Hmm some of them do, those who have fae blood But it's a rare thing to have, and the faes only agreed to 'the finest you've got to offer', which would be the nobles But I'd say Nylissa is the rule, but it's not unheard of.
Indeed, they'd be pretty useless slaves if they were just held in a prison LOL indeed they do love to show off, but as with Tezarya/Syd/Aluvia I suppose one could steal a slave from another, but that would be more likely to be a seat occupant from a 'regular' noble

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Cerzz In reply to The-Moonbound [2015-09-01 17:29:45 +0000 UTC]

I suppose if you're in possession of rare blood, you will feel superior over those who don't <3 Aww she's adorable
lol I misread/misunderstood hehe I thought they'd be more like 'prizes' to show off rather than being indentured and employed
Oh indeed, I can't see an Occupant putting up with a mere noble having a more desirable slave. I guess it's a case of 'I'll take -that-'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Moonbound In reply to The-Cerzz [2015-09-02 12:06:37 +0000 UTC]

Hehe indeed I can imagine that Ah well they're taken to be 'employed' of sorts But the pleasure slaves are sort of prizes to be on display, they're generally considered beautiful by the Shakra Like... objects...

LOL exactly Especially if it's a noble in service of their own seat
