Although I have read of Techno mage archetypes in my youth, Babylon 5 solidified the visualΒ imagery for me. When I look at this a bell goes off in my mind, bringing me back. Cheers

Easily the best technomage picture on dA. But not much of the concept explained.

I suppose, but technomages are something of a rarity in fiction so I like to see the creator's concept of them explained when they do.

It's a truly beautiful piece, something that truly represents the seven principles of technomancy. I see some inspiration from Galen and Elric, definitely like it.

Hey. This is absolutely fantastic, great work! I think this is the best technomage picture I found and also well researched! I am a huge fan of crusade, the technomage trilogy books and the mongoose RPG so I may have to use this as a character portrait next time I play lol. Can you tell me what font you used for the symbols in the control sphere where they all drawn?

Sorry mate I pulled up the original source PSD for the Technomage and it looks like I flattened that particular font layer (which means I lost the font, just pixels now). I will look through my fonts and see if I can find it and if I do I will post the name here a little later.

This is great! I always thought the technomages were one of the best figures in the B5 universe. Good job!

Same here it really sucked that Crusade died when it was just about to properly explore these amazing characters further!

Yeah, I've read on how Strazynski wanted to shift the show to focus more on the mages but executive meddling put the stops on that. Have you read the Technomage Trilogy by Jeanne Cavelos? I think they were good books that really explored the technomages and their origins. Maybe not as good as seeing their story on screen but good nonetheless.

I always liked Galen in 'Crusade' and the B5 movies, but something about Elric's reading and talk with Londo always stuck with me more. Love the work btw...sorry I kinda rant when it comes to B5...

The show honestly sucked starting out but it had so much potential! I hate that they cancelled it before it could get its legs under it and run.

I kind of felt the same way in the fact that the first season, like the first season of B5, was not going to be all that great, but it was meant to lay down a foundation (introduce us to key plot points, key characters...etc..etc...etc) and the next few seasons would build on to that.
If you look at the first season of B5, it wasn't very good and seemed a little cheezy...BUT you got the hint that they were leading up to something (but you couldn't tell). Then about half-way through it, you realize behind the cheeziness, something else was happening and...then all hell broke loose.

And I just actually READ the posts below and saw that was covered already, and I'd forgotten Isabelle's amulet got destroyed. Still there's no reason this couldn't have part of a chrysalis in it.

And why can't that be a part of her chrysalis, amulet or no amulet they never clarify why such a convoluted mechanical design? In fact we will never now what a chrysalis looks like since the shows run is over now will we. So why would it not be acceptable to snatch up the one time they show a Technomage carrying the ashes of a loved one and fellow mage in what could be a critical component of the actual chrysalis and to date aside from the ship and staff the only known Technocraft ever seen within the series? And yes I know all about how the ship and staff are supposed to be infused with an element of the chrysalis I have the novels as well and the "The TechnoMage FactBook" and the Crusade DVD's trust me one does not expend the time and energy to draw with this kind of detail without researching the subject. The only thing about this that is based on Galen is the costume with a few modifications but is otherwise an OC of my own design.
I think you may just be new to forums or otherwise trying to keep the cannon correct without meaning to come off as "trolling" considering you made so many baseless and blanket statements without asking me where I got my information so I am going to leave your comment up but anymore In-Your-Face comments like this will be hidden. I enjoy talking with fellow fans of the show and will admit when I'm wrong but I will not tolerate presumptuous know-it-alls plastering their opinions about my art just because they perceive themselves as the more informed fan that feels the need to correct others on a whim. You have been warned.

My information is based upon the Technomage trilogy books and Factbook, in which chrysalis are described as organic technology resembling a jelly fish that are attached to the apprentices head and is used for training before one becomes a technomage. I appologize if you thought I was trolling. I was just offering honest corrections. Didn't mean to rile you. I wasn't trying to be a know-it-all, just pointing out that the answer to one of your questions was incorrect. The only part of my comment aimed at your excellent work was the part where I pointed out my assumption that it was based off of Galen (which you corrected me on). The rest was aimed at Ranisath's first answer and some general tidbits on the uses of a chrysalis. My comment was not baseless. It was based on the description of a chrysalis as given in the trilogy novels as well as the Factbook and upon events described therein. Again, I'm sorry if you don't like people that make corrections. Admittedly, I can see how it can be percieved as presumptious, but it wasn't my intention. I'm a fan, I like the details. Again, appologies and cheers.

You are polite and courteous and I will be so in kind. Again I really don't care what someone has to say when their only purpose is to show they know more about a given topic (I run into this with a million W40K fans who all know more than me and yet none agree with each other) so in the context of reviewing the artwork I posted here there is no room for comments that declare this or that. And regardless where you got your information there will always be a difference of opinion on how it is interpreted for which this will be another endless debate on what this book said over that book, again irrelevant to the art here but based on individual interpretation of the show the novels and source books. I will not comment any further on this subject but will express my gratitude that you at least felt compelled to leave a comment even if it was not on the art but my interpretation of the background materials.

That's not a chrysalis. It's just an amulet that held Isabelles ashes, as demonstrated in the Crusade episode 'Well of Forever'. Isabelles amulet (that contained a small piece of her chrysalis) was destroyed when it was left behind during a botched spy mission against a Drakh agent. However, the Pinnace contains a small piece of chrysalis that allows the mage to connect to it and control it. If this is based off Galen (which I'm assuming it is) then the staff also contains a piece of his chrysalis.
