I... oh dear Aslan, I want this skirt. Adorable! Is the fluffiness done with a separate petticoat underneat, or does it naturally have that much lift?

Nah, I try to avoid Walmart. I actually bought the fabric several years ago, its been discontinued and I haven't been able to find more.

Oh noes! That's sad to hear. I love the skirt, but I can't afford it right now. TT.TT (Drowning in tears) Later, when I do have funds, would you have the fabric to possibly make another? Of if the other goes on sale, would you let me know?

Do you ship to Australia?

The-Cute-Storm In reply to MarmaladeSoup [2012-10-06 23:32:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes we do! I think we still have a couple things that don't have international shipping costs listed, but you can always send a "note to seller" on Etsy and we'll figure it out for you.

We actually seem to send quite a lot to Australia.

I'm so addicted to skirts lately and this is one of the better ones I've seen while browsing Etsy. Great work!

Thank you! I've noticed that myself, a lot of it is very amateur (or perhaps, just lazy) in construction and design, or unfortunately manufactured goods being marketed as hand made (I am sure you've seen it too). Its pretty sad actually.

Plus they're so expensive, but fall apart the first time you wear them. I'll search for hours on Etsy just to find something I know will be something I can wear for a long time. I also like that some of your skirts fit a wide range of women. I've put on weight, so I look for the skirts that will stretch to fit me now and will also fit when I lose some weight.

It might sound harsh, but I think some people forget when they are sewing that what they find personally acceptable might not be good enough for other people, and they start selling things before their skills are actually marketable.

For me, the sizing thing just makes sense. A fitted waist band looks more finished, but limits the number of people it will fit and a full elastic waist band makes a skirt very casual (plus, for someone curvy, no zipper means it won't go over either the hips or the bust). Combining the two gives the best of both worlds: a clean, neat front, a little flexibility in size and the advantage of a zip closure. It's impractical for me to try and make a full range of sizes, so its important for me to make sure a single piece can fit as many different people as possible.

I think most everyone struggles with weight eventually. I had been very slender, and then after I had my son I gained some weight. I had been jogging, but I really don't enjoy it (even though it was going well). I prefer doing the elliptical machine at the gym; I can just turn my brain off, watch some TV and go...I feel less awkward being surrounded by other people who are in the same mode I guess.

I've been going through a rough time lately and exercise has been the last thing on my mind. I know I'll feel better if I do it, but depression tends to take the will to do anything away. I've exercised in the past, even had a trainer at one point. I think the meds I'm on increases my weight. I discontinued one of them which had a lot of salt in it and I've actually lost a lot of my gut since I've been off it. It must have been water weight. Exercise is definitely on my list, but I need to cut down on the smoking first and get some of my willpower back. I've been thinking about starting out with some yoga and Pilates first in order to get some muscle strength back before I start anything too intense. I need some kind of class or group to keep myself accountable. I used to take Pilates at a church for $2 a session! Wish I could find something like that again. I'd love to run, but I feel so awkard. IDK if you know the "Running Girl Meme," but that's what I feel like when I'm running. LMAO

I don't think I've seen that meme. I've never liked running tough, even when I was more fit. We watched the documentary "Fat, sick and nearly dead" awhile back and it kind of got me and my husband going. we got a juicer and both went on a juice fast and had been jogging pretty regularly. It did wonders for my energy levels, and while I haven't stuck to it, I've been able to keep of the weight I had lost, which is a plus.

They say regular exercise is one of the best long term treatments for depression. It doesn't take a whole lot of extra activity to help. I've been trying to force myself out of the house when I start to go down hill. I've gotten in the habit of going for a walk to the produce market and getting something trivial (a couple bucks worth of fruit). Its not strenuous, but it puts me in a more positive mind set for sure.

I need to start walking. I know it would improve my mood and stamina. I'm so tired all the time. And you're right it doesn't take a lot of activity. Thanks for the motivation, hun!
