not quite sure what i was doing :<all i know is adding colour to a black and white is IMPOSSIBLE >
so yer any way, i noticed that i mainly only do environments, with little characters.
so i just this was more of a practice to see if i could do a character on his own
but no fret more crazy naked fantasy magic ones are coming XD

The character looks great; I love the sepia tone. There is a huge sense of dread and foreboding in the scene, and I think you've succeeded in delivering even with a minimal, hinted background.

I know adding color to greyscale is a bitch but when you've got a technique that works it will come in handy when you want to test different color schemes. The trick is to learn how to get really good values when working in greyscale and when they're good the color layers just looks natural. Learning how to totally change the colors in an image is something I've found is really important when doing my commission work. Clients are sometimes really annoying and will ask you to totally change the colors and knowing how to do that without repainting everything saves a lot of time.
Anyway, something to say about the picture and not your comment: Looks cool, I'm guessing you're a fan of Feng Zhu? Reminds me of some concept art he did ^^

Haha, it's weird for it to be those two guys. watched a lot of interview with those guys and Feng is a dude with amazing fundamentals and has a firm grasp of all the basics, he's kinda strict and all that jazz. Kekai is a laid back kind of dude who has said in an interview that he has no idea how to use color or how perspective works

ahaha yer, i never thought of it like that before, but I often find my self drifting closer to say feng, have lots of time spent of the design of something... then the composition with be ugly and then i will lean to kekais like crazy compositions and not much design ahaha.

I prefer Kekai Kotaki. Feng is cool and all but I like the personality you se in Kekais work, you don't really get that with Feng, at least I don't

Ah okay, not sure if I can give an answer, I like sooo manny and I like 'em all for different reasons. But I guess I can just point out a few of my favorites: Dave Rapoza, Brad Rigney, Peter Mohrbacher, Anthony Jones and sooooo many more! A lot of my favorites are also people that haven't gotten that kind of rockstar fame yet in concept art and illustration
