Kodi loved going on mail runs more than anything. He loved the adrenaline rush he got whenever he ran with his team, the wind whipping his face as they dashed through the mountains. Most of all, he loved seeing the joy that was brought to peoples' faces when they delivered the mail, whether it was a kid getting a new toy or someone receiving a letter from a loved one who lived far away. Things like that made his job all the more satisfying, and he couldn't be happier.

But sometimes, Kodi just liked to rest -- which was what he was doing now after a particularly hard mail run. His joints ached a little more than usual, and he was excited to take a long nap by the fireplace. His eyelids grew heavy and drooped downward, and he was about to drift off to sleep, when all of a sudden...

"Dad! Dad!"

Kodi's brown eyes flew open, and he couldn't help but smile when he saw his eldest pup, Prudhoe, galloping towards him. But suddenly, Prudhoe fell over his paws and hit the floor with a thud.

"Prudhoe!" Kodi's paternal instincts kicked in, and he was about to rush to his son's aid when he saw Prudhoe get up unscathed.

"I'm okay, Dad!" Prudhoe assured him, walking up more slowly to Kodi.

A smile spread across Kodi's face when he realized why Prudhoe had fallen. He was wearing his father's sled collar, which was much too big for the little pup, and he had tripped over it. "Whatcha got there, kiddo?" Kodi asked.

"It's your collar!" Prudhoe said, his tail wagging. "I'm gonna be the best mail dog one day, just like you. I wanna be like you, Dad!"

Kodi's heart swelled knowing how much his son looked up to him. It reminded him of when he was Prudhoe's age, and he looked up to his own father, Balto. He chuckled and rubbed the top of Prudhoe's fuzzy brown head.

"I have no doubt you will be, son," Kodi said sincerely. "No doubt at all."
