Eh, I've been so-so. I've just been working hard at the Art Institute, getting my degree in Game Art and Design. What have you been up to?

Thandiel In reply to SanguineusPrince [2010-01-23 15:23:27 +0000 UTC]

That sounds exciting! Is that a fun area to work in? I'm at the U of A right now working on getting a degree in art history. I love the subject, but sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't be doing something else (like illustration or games design).

SanguineusPrince In reply to Thandiel [2010-07-28 15:39:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, what job are you shooting for? Cause honestly... you could teach yourself illustrator, after effects, photoshop and 3ds Max. It's a lot cheaper than getting the degree. And yeah, I've learned a shit ton of stuff I didnt know before and I love the school, but you really dont need a degree for game art. As long as you're good at 3ds max or Photoshop... you can get a job without it. The degree just makes your resume look nice, but if there's an artist better than you without the degree... they may just be hired over you. It's all about competition in the industry.

Yeah, that sounds about right. It is a very competitive field, as most areas are for any art career. Sometimes its about knowing the right people too. I hope that i is working out for you though!

So very very true... but I think I have enough talent to be noticed. At least I hope so.

It looks like you are also good at figure drawing from live people. This gives me the impression that you may know how to draw different body parts, Arms, Legs, Hands and Feet. I am not really that good with the limbs in figure drawing and I would like to become better at that. I am hoping that you could show me with the simplest of tools how to draw those body parts that I mentioned. It would be fun to learn from here and share my works with you. XD It's just a suggestion and it's entirely up to you if you want to take it. XD Laters Thandiel and thanks for hearing me out.

Ya, I've done figure drawing from live people and from pictures as well. I'll definately have to show you a good process for working out figure drawing through gesture drawing. Gesture drawing can help work out proportions and set a general layout for your figures as well as get your limbs placed correctly. While this won't often give you a finished piece of art, it will help you with figure drawing. Another way of getting your limbs drawn out well is using simple shapes like circles triangles, squares, and rectangles to get the limbs down and then go in and add your detail. I'll work something out for you so you can see the process. I can't promise that I'll get it done that soon, but I'll work on getting it done as quickly as I can.

Ohh, really, that sounds like a great plan, seems to me that you already had a tutorial in mind, and I was just to busy and I overlooked it. If that's the case I'll upload my 'unfinished' finished works (beginning projects that are not finished but I have done too much to even know what to fix with.) Amoung my sketches and the likes within this coming week. If it's anything please take your time with it Thandiel, I will do my best to present my works as best I can and follow whatever presentations that you may happen to give me to work with. Hope to hear more about this soon. I'll keep in touch.

(They'll be submitted into my scraps section.)

Ya, I'll definaately take a look at your work. I have most of my first tutorial worked out and drawn, it's just a matter of my assembling it. I'll try my best to get that done soon.

The other one was a photo I thought was a drawing, but this drawing could easliy pass for a photo! The shading is perfect. His eyes are beautifully done- they seem to stare right at you.
