Description Yeeeeeeeeah I know I'm putting these out fast I might end up redoing this with a completely different piece because frankly her hair is just too light to see my highlights! Sorry But really it's the same process as shadows.

I noticed how in the third panel, the pen tool lines tend to extend into the gray area? If you press fill, wouldn't it fill into the gray too as well as the hair?

Ah, that's because I lock the layer where the gray is ^_^ It basically allows you to only touch the areas where there is paint.

I'm sorry, I don't seem to understand

So if you have the hair base coloring on a separate layer and the shading layer's over that, both of them being unlocked, the rest of the layers being locked, only the shadowed layer will be affected? o.O

Was this the tutorial that I put shading on a different layer? Maybe. I usually put it on the same layer. If you don't want to do that. All you do is select the outside of the hair layer and then with the area still selected, go to the shading area and press delete! It's as simple as that to easily clean up drawings ^_^

But mostly I lock all of my layers

Oh I see~ Sorry,I'm still learning about photoshop and I recently learned about locking layers. Do I lock transparent, image position, or pixels?

I'm sorry for my endless question

Lock transparency ^_^ And don't worry I don't mind

How did you color the hair in the first panel without coloring the body of the character ?

Tetiel In reply to Bloodfreak4life [2009-05-19 03:53:50 +0000 UTC]

Easy Just zoom in and fill it in with a small brush

Tetiel In reply to loganno1 [2007-11-14 07:29:24 +0000 UTC]

The thing is the dodge tool is good sometimes but really... it's better if you learn which colors work together as the dodge tool can be somewhat uncontrollable.

Great tutorial.
What's even more challenging is trying to do that on the uvmap of a 3D character's hair.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tetiel In reply to gauveldt [2007-11-14 07:35:39 +0000 UTC]

Oh goodness I'm sure! I couldn't imagine going 3d. As is I'm terrible with clay...

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

gauveldt In reply to Tetiel [2007-11-14 15:26:38 +0000 UTC]

The main complexity is that UV maps aren't usually the most intuitive things to paint. This scrap shows an example of that.
