As promised, here's the new two season version of my previous photomosaic.
All tiles are original shots from the 52 episodes in season 1&2. Every episode shows up somewhere in this.
Again no modifications (rotation, mirroring, color changing, etc.) had been made to the tiles, and in addition, this time the tiles are in the correct aspect ratio.
I also doubled the number of tiles (since the image database has also been doubled).
I originally want to double the resolution as well, but the file size becomes too large and deviantart won't accept it. So the image size is basically the same as the previous version.

I have no intention to pretend that I'm some kind of god who can put such a thing together manually; yes, this IS a computer-generated picture.
Most of the hard work is about creating a "good" image database, which cannot be done fully automatically, if we want some quality in the result.
One of the most common questions people asked is how long does it take to make this thing. I believe it is something like 10 hours altogether: 6~7 hours for the image database, and the rest for generating the mosaic.

I noticed that some people mentioned repeating tiles in this.
Indeed, there are repetitions. Although I have plenty of images in the database, a certain amount of repetition is still needed, otherwise the result will look terrible.
I did, however, try me best to balance between the quality and the number of repetitions.

There's still a lot of room for further improvement. I will definitely make an even better one after season 3.
My plans for the next version include:
1. Generate the mosaic using a vector remake of this well-known picture (which is done now [link] ) to capture more detail.
2. Change the background: Up to this point the huge blue sky at the back had been causing a lot of trouble, because this show really doesn't have that many blue scenes. I'm thinking about using a different background to balance the color distribution.
3. Make sure it contains more memorable moments: For example, one of my favorites, the Twilight machine gun, is not in this picture. I will go through the entire show again to make sure more of those great shots are included.
4. Avoid using "bad" frames: Frames such as transitional frames, solid color frames, or frames that contains too little recognizable features shouldn't be here. I will discard those frames next time.
5. Reduce repetition: I have some idea as for how I may further reduce repetition or even completely avoid it. It may or may not work, we will see.
