Description
One of the exercises we're required to do for my character design class is a turnaround showing the character from the front, 3/4 front, profile, 3/4 back and back. I decided to get a bit more elaborate with it, add some views of her tattoos, a close-up and give her some color. I did this because a) I wanted a nice character sheet for Rowan anyway and b) Wednesday is my portfolio review and I wanted this to look really nice so I could include it in my portfolio.Now I have two more exercises to do (oops) and my American gods cover for another class. Exciting.
Some additional information about Rowan: She's approximately 5'7" and about 125 lbs. Her hair is naturally brown, but she dyes it burgundy fairly regularly. She has three tattoos, her first one (and consequently, the only one her parents actually know about) is the one on her wrist, of two stars. Her second one was the quill and designs on her side, and her most recent one was the "Once Upon A Time" on the back of her neck.
At the start of my storyΒ she is nineteen-years-old, and a sophomore in college.

Am I right to assume that the star tattoo is a reference of "second star to the right and straight on 'til morning", from Peter Pan?

I thought so^^Β It looked like it, and going my how much she's a story buff, I guessed^^Β I really want a tattoo representing my own personal stories, but I haven't even saved up for my first tattoo yet, so that's a ways off.

You guessed right!Β Do you know what you're gonna get for the first?Β I always give my characters these tattoos and then want them for myself, ugh!Β I've been saving for a story-themed piece for my arm.

My story one I want a sleeve, that's more on my shoulder, but my first is gonna be the diabetic symbol (but prettier) that I've been carrying around in my wallet for about two years now. I also want one that looks like scars from where a pair of wings have been torn away. Like old scars, not new ones.

Yeah I want my story one to be a half or maybe 3/4 sleeve.Β The diabetic one could turn out really pretty, I think, depending on how the artist interprets it.
The scars could be cool, a nice change of pace from the usual "WINGS ON MY BACK" tattoo.

Well, there's a reason behind the scars thing. I've always watches scenes where someone is flying (in movie book etc) with a weird sense of loss, which makes me think that in some past life I had the ability to fly, and lost the privilege. So I feel like I've lost the wings I used to have, so the scars make sense to me. It's not just because everybody wants wings, it's got a specific meaning to me. But yeah, I want my story one to start on my shoulder, come no farther than my elbow, and if more room is needed, then they can spread onto my back or neck or both. But the diabetic one, I drew up what I want and even colored it, I just need to save up the money and find an artist whose way of doing the colors I like.

That's really interesting, I wonder if you were some kind of bird.Β I'm feeling a raven or a robin or something.Β But yes, that definitely makes sense.Β I like that you're mixing it up since like I said, so many people do wings, it's nice to see it done a bit differently.
I keep thinking I need to commission someone to draw the tattoo I want but I'm so picky, lol.Β I don't think I trust myself to draw it.

I feel ya there, you could always run to the request groups and request it from a bunch of different people and choose the best one, or hold a contest. Or just commission one^^
