Axel (KH 2) and my Kingdom Heats version of Red XIII(FFVII). When I first saw a pic of Axel a long time ago, I thought he looked like a human version of Red XIII. Before he had a name, I think most people called him "Red". So I thought I'd draw them together. I gave Red XIII some different tattoos. Um, no comments on that weird tangent going on with Axel's weapon and his eye I TRIED TO FIX IT! Anyway......Can't wait for KH 2. Wonder if Red XIII will actually be in it. I know Vincent Valentine is.Axel is (c) Disney, Square Enix

Actually I remember hearing somewhere that Nomura himself said that he based Axel off of Reno's character. So he is based on Reno. Hence the resemblance.
