Description This is not actually a painting! It's a photomanip, or a paint-over, whatever you want to call it, using a lot of painting techniques - i.e., you're not going to get results this good without knowing a lot about painting.

I recently bought a book of tutorials on Painter, and this one showed how to use cloning and glazing techniques to create an oil-style portrait out of a photograph. Stay tuned as I'm about to post a walkthrough! It won't have the details of what I did, though, because you should really buy this book if you're serious about learning some nifty techniques. It's The Complete Guide to Digital Painting, a collection of tutorials from the Corel Painter magazine.

ETA: Walkthrough posted right over here .

Painter IX. About 4-5 hours.

It's really beautiful... I have seen this on my oil painting keyword search... It's quite sad though that this isn't really the traditional art I was expecting. But it's really beautiful... Being done in Painter, with a hand of a good digital artist. It's as rich and stunning as da Vinci's works...

Unbelievably well done.
Especially for only 4-5 hours.
I can't paint a real painting that good in that amount of time.

Thanks! It's all about judicious use of a large, soft, low-opacity blending brush at the end to carefully blend the splotches. If you start using the blender too early in the process, it gets muddy and over-blended. XD

i tend to blend using a medium brush. it's no wonder my other artworks have 'spots' or swirlson itXD plus i don't lower the opacity enough so i'll take ur advice. hopefully one of mine will turn out less-embarassing so i can post it on devartXP
