Heh the relations between R2D2 and BB8 and Chopper all remind me of the relations between Ash's Pikachu and Sophocle's Togedemaru (a roly poly rodent like pokemon) and Jessie's Mimikyu in pokemon
R2D2 = Pikachu (main star wars droid just as Pika is main mascot)
B8= Togedemaru (Cute pika clone and rolls around and adores Ash's pikachu like crazy the way BB8 admires R2)
Chopper= Mimikyu (an angsty edgy ghost type who resembles a bootleg pikachu just as Chopper looks like a broken R2 unit. Both hate the main mon/droid or pick fights with them a lot).

FUN FACT: Chopper pops up in Rogue One, but you gotta have a sharp eye; he's seen for only about a second.
