the iz comic's recent issue made me remember how much i love how zim and gir's dynamic is portrayed and instead of sleeping i got the urge to write it down here whoops,, , some spoilers from the comic down below

Okay but can I just say that I absolutely love the interactions that GIR and Zim have in the comics?? Like, don't get me wrong, I also liked some of the interactions they both had in the show- and I absolutely love the interactions that they each have individually with the other main characters, but there's something about the dynamic these two have in the comics that I can't really help but be drawn to. I think it may have to do with the fact that, compared to the show, it feels much more.. natural?? I'm not entirely what the word can be used to describe it exactly (since it's like 1 am as i type this and my brain is sorta dead rn), but if we were to compare the comics and the show together you'd notice how the comics conveys the characters actions/emotions a lot better and they communicate much more normally. I mean, seriously.. as much as I did like the show, literally 95% of whatever GIR said was just a bunch of random shit. I know that GIR is a very random character overall and he does random shit constantly but like.. at least in the comics he still kept doing a bunch of random shit while also being able to uphold some type of normal conversation with other characters (or at least whatever you could make of a conversation from a character who basically comes off as a child) and was able to be useful to the plot in some instances.

The fact that Zim seems to be.. idk pretty lenient towards GIR and is able to not only be patient with him but can also find ways to uphold casual conversations with him despite him having the mentality of a child is something that I like a lot. In the recent issue, Zim literally spent his day watching some show with GIR and talking to him about it instead of doing what he intended to do which was to enslave humanity with some organism he created in his lab. And even when the said organism had come up to tell Zim that he wanted to wreck shit up Zim just,, told him to record it on his phone and I honestly thought that was beautiful.

Also keep in mind that's just one example out of the many others found within the other comic issues just look at some of these other gems with these two interacting-

and there's just so much more
Another thing I feel like it's important to point out is that I noticed GIR mimicking Zim sometimes (more notably in issues 1 and 3) and I find that absolutely adorable.

basically what i'm saying here is that i love them
and that if you haven't read the comics please do like holy shit

i think it might be partly due to the fact that jhonen's really developed them over the years,, and that the comics are sort of supposed to appeal to, dare i say, an older demographic. because, you take people who were longtime fans of the original show, and they're obviously older now so they want more mature and thoughtful content that still holds the comedic and stylistic spirit of the original.

but omg yes i love it too and honestly the way zim and gir's relationship is portrayed is one of my favorite things about the comic tbh because a lot of the time it's done so subtle, but if you know what you're looking for you can totally see the little clues.
