I think that I'll include myself to the long list of people who think you have amazing talent ... and add that you have incredible lips, haha. They are a "double take" sort of beautiful actually - hopefully that isn't too creepy coming from a complete stranger, lol. I apologize if it is!

Lol, no not creepy, very flattered! (I'm so sorry about how crazy late this is, I hope you're well. I've been rubbish at dA the last several years but I was glad to hear what you said [who wouldn't be!])

I don't think you look vacant, exactly--more like you've just registered something a little interesting. xD The eyes are wonderful--you definitely have a real talent!

its funny looking at a portrait in stone makes me think so much more about the actual face as in every part of it..i found that with the head of the indian man as well. very nice

Thanks again! (and for watching too )

It can be easy to get focused on the details and miss the whole, but I portraiture and sculpture is about the effect communicated by the entire object. I was just trying to get the clay to look like me rather than going for any kind of intense expression, so it's odd how it still communicates despite a fairly blank face.

it looks sorta quietly pensive to me

I can live with that interpretation In some lights it looks suspicious, others (like in the above photo) it just looks dazed and vacant

Is it wierd seeing yourself like that..or do you not think anything of it..i mean in that your making your own face and can then try out any expresion on it and see what you look like..

It is a bit odd. Before I put the hair on it looked just like me aged 15, then got gradually older as I put more detail on.

I did do another self portrait in wax, half size but I ended up destroying it cause the wax was so hard. To get expression you really need something soft like clay so you can push it around quickly and try out different things. And once I got the clay one right I didn't want to change it cause every expression changes the whole structure of the face in subtle or dramatic ways. Now I know I can make it look like me I could try it again but play with different expressions... it's just a case of time, there's so much I want to do.

great eyes. Soooooo... do you come here often?

JK! XD Great work though! Seriously, it's quite astounding what you can make from clay and stone. I really liked your ram's head as well.
