Tawnwen, ensuring anatomical incorrectness since 2014Self-indulgent sketches of surgeon basal form, sans imprinting/environmental modification at early age. Results in meat/fat crazed creature that's usually hunted down and burned before it can cause damage to the ecosystem.

I've basically stalked all of the Surgeon anatomy updates in your gallery because you art is amazing so why wouldn't I?
Anyways, I have some questions, if you don't mind~
1) Are surgeons a closed species you made or are they open? (Highkey need to know because I want one so bad for some reason)
2) Do you have any plans for the surgeon species? Like perhaps a group or just to keep as your own characters?
3) How are surgeons born? Like are they just willed into existence, are they made through reproduction etc?
4) Could they be kept as pets or are they too dangerous? Or are they more like roommates, in the sense that they are able to reach human intelligence and live by their own means?
5) Do they have vocal cords like humans and if not, how do they speak, if at all?
6) Can they come in color variations or are they strictly monochromatic?
7) Can they become overweight or do they just grow in size, grow limbs, etc?

I’m much more adept at the physical/biological aspect of world building than the social/story, but yes in my modern verse surgeons populate earth and have a complex relationship with humans as a parallel inteligent species.
Because of this and the way theyre programmed, any human-surgeon relationship would be more one-sided towards humans (from an emotional standpoint). As a race though they are intrigued by humans and consider them a very “special” type of animal. The urge to “preserve” or “cultivate” a particular human is probably the most common positive connection a surgeon would feel

That's really cool! Do any of them live with humans out of fascination or appreciation? also are they huggable/would they allow hugs? what does it feel like to touch them, if they can be touched?

Short answer is yes! Surgeons live in their own communities... kinda. They're not a social species, evidently by their lack of congregations (upon uniting with humans they begin to collaborate more and form communities of highly variable sizes). So they have no qualms about abandoning others and living in close proximity with humans. Designated diplomats must by default. Bonds are hard to form so those who choose to follow men would do so more as overseers than roommates.
They have smooth skin with a leathery toughness by absolute default. Kinda like a soft rubber? When shifting texture varies greatly, liquefied flesh feels like silly putty mixed with sand, kinda gritty and sharp at places? Those that are actively analyzing surroundings feel like they're faintly vibrating, paired with a low-pitched humming sound like reverberates through you. I think they'd enjoy being touched :3
