The White December | Phase One

The trail started out easy enough. Tropic handled the slick, steep trails near Mount Rushmore with ease, no surprise with his breeding, but as the pair began to close distance on Devil's Tower and the wind picked up, Tabby suddenly began to realize she'd grown used to Australia's stifling heat. Her hardy Maine upbringing was no longer doing her any favors as the wind-whipped snow pelted her back and sent chills down to the bone. Tropic trotted along steady, ears pinned and mane a flurry. One thing was for sure, both of them were certainly ready to make camp and settle in for the night.

I love the atmosphere of this piece. They both look determined and ready for the challenge of braving the bitter winter conditions, yet content and calm. I love the softness and the colors of the sunset giving Tabby and Tropic a slight glow. A wonderful start to what I'm sure is going to be a great story!
