I first thought of "Doctor Who", but then I listened to some stuff involving Neil deGrasse Tyson, so I can imagine this being used for a good science show intro (hopefully also including the "Doctor Who" theme).

Wait a sec............you can use Chaotica in the Animation process for Apophysis? Are you SERIOUS!!?!?!????

HELL TO THE YEAH!!!! Now I got something MORE to look forward to whenever I get started on my Animation projects again!

By the way young Lady, this deserves my patented "Thumbz Up Award"! Oustanding work!!!!

Even Felly Fel agrees, it's alladat and a Hot Wheel track!!!!!

I assume you used either or scripts for this project? I've always wanted to make a Animated Fractal project like this, it's so Cosmic! I like how the Stars burst from the center of it.

well, you can take your apo parameters, paste them into chaotica and animate it in chaotica ^^
so pretty much the animation process is done in chaotica (which is handy as the apo animation scripts are just terrible and i never managed to make them work properly, and chaotica's interface, while raw, is way more intuitive).

And no, i used no scrips, i don´t think they work in 15C.

boot-cheese-3000 In reply to tatasz [2015-04-28 22:12:39 +0000 UTC]

So you can Animate in Chaotica? I've never had a chance to before so I'm not sure what Chaotica is good for or used for. I've been curious as to why people use it when you can render on Apophysis to begin with.

And you're right--they don't work in 15C or 15D. Now I have more of a reason to Animate with Chaotica. Are there any tutorials on how to use it?

Chaotica Editor Basics - UpdatedAn illustrated explanation of Chaotica`s World Editor.
It also features the Apophysis equivalents (when those exist). The left column corresponds to Chaotica, while the right column is Apo.
This is how the Chaotica Editor looks like:

The World Editor has the following elements:
toolbar ("New Iterator" and "New Transform" buttons)world nodes (the tree view of the iterators)node editor (details of each node)
If you cannot see one of those, right click one of the visible widgets and click the corresponding option to make it visible again:

To zoom in and out the affine editor, use Alt + right mouse button.
To move, around, Ctrl + right mouse button.

The editor
To open the animation editor, go to the Window menu and select the Animation editor option. The editor looks like this:

Animation Settings
Lets take a look at the animation settings first.
Total length is the length of your animation in seconds. On the picture above, it is 0, indicating the parameters are not animated.
FPS are frames per second. 30 FPS means that there will be 30 frames for every second of your animation. So, for example, a 3 minutes (180 seconds) animation at 30 fps will have 180*30=5400 frames that you will need to render later on.
Preview FPS is the number of frames rendered per second when displaying a real time preview of your Chaotica Animation Editor Basics - Part 2A quick introduction to the animation editor.
You may also want to check out the Chaotica Editor Basics tutorial.
Creating a simple animation
As an example, i will create a small animated gif.
We start setting FPS and animation time. Since we are making a gif, we will pick some low FPS value and short animation time (else it will be very huge and take time to load). Here, i used 10 FPS and 30 seconds, which means 300 frames overall.

Now move a bit along the timeline.

Switch to the World Editor and just move/skew/rotate/scale your affines, change the transform variables, edit weights and shaders.
Editor before changes:

Editor after changes:

On the "after" picture, you can see also the movement spli Chaotica Animation Editor Basics - Part 3A quick introduction to the animation editor.

Render settings - Resolution

For animated gifs, try to keep the resolution low. High resolution gifs are not very user friendly, and may take a long time to load for most users.
Here are some standard resolutions for video/animations:
Full HD or 1080p: 1920 x 1080HD or 720p: 1280 x 720Lower res for eg YouTube: 960 x 540, 640 x 360
Render settings - Other settings
For both gifs and animations, the optimal settings are AA level 2 and Anti-aising mode Smooth. Those settings produce pretty nice results and are also efficient for batch rendering, with high speed and low amount of noise.
Do not use Ultra quality for gifs and animations.

You can render with Apo? o.O Honestly its so slow and crappy that not sure if one can call it can

As for chaotica, i got a bunch of tutorials lost in my journals. I suggest you look at the editor basics first, and when you can edit just fine, go to the animation ones.

XD Of course you can! As you mentioned though it does take awhile depending on the info it reads and all.

I've seen the results with Chaotica and have been impressed with how the Fractals have came out. I believe I DL'ed a copy of it a few years back so I don't know if it's been updated or not. If not then it's cool, I can totally use that old file, if so I definitely need the newer version of it post-haste. I guess I'll have to search through your Journal for those Chaotica tutorials. How much stuff do you have written in your Journal?

Lots of tutorials hehe
and well, chaotica is really handy for anims, specially due to its speed... Like, no way youll get 1920x1080 frames rendered in less than 1 min each in apo Which matters when you have 10k of them

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

boot-cheese-3000 In reply to tatasz [2015-04-29 21:10:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh really? So you can do larger frames on Chaotica? How many keyframes can I upload in there to be rendered?

I have done bigger files in Apophymator but they do take awhile to render but it doesn't matter much to me, what matters is the end result coming out FLAWLESS and just how I would hope it would but if Chaotica can make things so much easier as well as be limitless when it comes to what version of Apophysis I can render then I'm sold.

If I can import alot of keyframes to be rendered and adjust how many FPI--Frames Per Interval--then I'll definitely be sticking with just Chaotica. Other than that it'll just be Apophymator, Pete's scripts and Chaotica.

tatasz In reply to boot-cheese-3000 [2015-04-29 22:33:39 +0000 UTC]

There is no limit for keyframes (i hit 20k keyframes at one of the animations - and it had 10k frames overall )

Sorry, "upload" keyframes? i'm not sure what that means o.O
Because like, you have your base parameters, and then you set the length and make them change along the timeline at any intervals that suit you o.O
I suppose its a very different approach than Apo scripts.

boot-cheese-3000 In reply to tatasz [2015-05-01 00:27:50 +0000 UTC]

Well in Apophymator after I create the project and save the parameters I select which ones will be the keyframes for whatever project then run them through Apophymator after saving them in a folder for them to render. I guess I should say "import", that would be a much easier phrase for this conversation.

Either way I'm very excited to see what Chaotica has in store, esp if it works for later versions of Apophysis like 15C and 15D, which I've been wanting to use for Animation projects for a min let alone just to work on.

in Chaotica, you animate it live... You have your whole animation, and you can change/add any keyframe and it updates the interpolation.

Just looked around this morning and realized that I didn't have Chaotica DL'ed at all, which I'm surprised about. I assumed that I did, something like this I more than likely would have a copy of. If I did DL it it's probably on my Desktop computer which is in Tucson at the moment. Either way I noticed that I'm a member of the Chaotica Fractals group on here so I'm going there to DL the Render Engine and stuff.

Hell the fact that the Chaotica website has a forum, fb group and tumblr page (ugh) and I'm sure alot of tutorials is even more comforting for me to learn this software even more.
