This is a pretty great recreation. I think it would be a lot harder to mimic a painting than the real thing. I also suck really, really hard at landscapes, so. =/

Yeah - I do suck at landscapes as well. that's why I study them
About mimicing the painting - well a picture wouldn't have this amount of colors, and I wasn't in the Yosmite valley- so I am left with Bierstadt's vision
Try studying master painting's yourself! you learn a ton...

If that's sucking at landscapes, I don't even know what I am.

That's probably a good idea. I'm still struggling to be good at what I'm already good at. =/

yeah, I hear you.

study form paintings, photos, movie stills (That's a big one If you're aiming for great mood).

The key is to step from your comfort zone. ( I have never painted a sunset, that's why I choose to do it in this study)
Let me know how it went!

For sure. I've been meaning to for a while, but I haven't known where to start. I'll give it a shot some time soon, and I will indeed let you know.

Thanks but, It isn't my idea for composition or subject matter.
It's a study of the old master painting
