Description

(drawn 5-21-21; made with Procreate Pocket on iPhone)

I......I finally did another drawing.  Geez but this is another weird year for art...  I've been trying to make myself draw more often but I keep getting to the end of the day and realized I haven't even looked at my sketchbook, much less added anything to it.

Anyway, here's a Finwë for y'all.  It's been like three years since I drew him, I think.

(Finwë is from J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Silmarillion".)

I used to draw elven royalty with lighter, delicate crowns like Elrond and Galadriel wear in the movies, but in the past year or so I’ve been shifting more towards crowns that look a bit like branches or antlers: since elves are so in-tune with nature, it seemed to fit better. I don’t remember at the moment if the elves of Aman were ever described as wearing crowns per se (Fëanor wearing Silmarils is a bit of a different category to me), but it’s still fun to draw.
And yes, this drawing is set in Formenos! One of my earliest drawings of Finwë was of him trying to ward off Morgoth, so I thought it would be fun to have another go at that scene.

It’s not in my gallery, but I could probably upload it at some point in the scraps folder as a comparison for this one though, I’ve done that for other drawings in the past.
Ah yeah for sure, things were better before he died.
