Description Here's a beautiful Tarzan illustration by the Late Doug Wildey of Jonny Quest fame...I just had to share it with everyone....he was a good friend and I still miss him to this day...excellent study in wash and lighting.

I never met Doug Wildey, but exchanged some letters with him when he was producing and designing "Jana of the Jungle" and "Godzilla" at Hanna-Barbera.  I understand he had a rep for being one tough SOB to work for or with, sort of a crusty, old-school newspaperman type; but he was unfailingly gracious and generous in answering my questions, often including copies of artwork from his shows.  His story sense, his idea of what made a good adventure script, was every bit as important as his drawing talent.  There was just no one like him, then or now.

I met Doug back in 1986 or so at the Dallas Fantasy Fair and we became good friends until his passing in 1993. He surprised me one show with a portrait he had done of me. Its one of the most treasured pieces of art I own. Doug and his wife were the sweetest people on Earth.

I've long admired Wildey's Gold Key Tarzan issues. Does anyone know how he came to work on that title...and why he put so much work into a book that paid so little! I was so impressed by the evident effort he put into those issues. I'm guessing it was a labor of love.
