Lol I can so relate. I'm still a teenager (just barely though) and I have that same fear. Apparently it actually is an official phobia, I forgot what it's called though. When I was making this I looked up a long list of phobias and there are definitely some...interesting ones out there.
Ah, but that's okay. Balance is meant to be broken, it's why we have it, right? XD

Yep, and it was a long list too. I never knew someone could be so afraid of ceiling fans, but apparently they can. It was actually pretty amusing looking through it. And I won't lie, I was kind of tempted to add a really odd and and ridiculous and out of place one in this, like a fear of ceiling fans, just to see if anyone would notice lol.
You hit it right on the head, 19 about to turn 20. Man, that is pretty funny, huh? Ironic too in a way. Hahaha, all joking aside though, perhaps you don't give yourself enough credit. I don't think ending up like you would be such a bad thing

Oh. Odd AND out of place. 'Cause at first I was just like "odd?" Aren't there some odd ones on here already? But then I looked again and it seems the more WTF ones were not placed in the picture!
I can think of two reasons why people could fear ceiling fans. #1. In a certain part of Asia, people believe that fans move air away faster than new air can move in, creating a vacuum, and if you are trying to breathe in there you can unwittingly suffocate, like when you breathe carbon monoxide. You don't even know it's there and then you never wake up. So they believe that sleeping in a room with a fan on that does not have an open window causes the air in the room to be destroyed, and several deaths across that country were attributed to fans or this reason. In fact, I heard that when you buy a fan in that country the law requires there to be a suffocation warning label on it, like plastic bags have here. So the people think the fans destroy the oxygen!
And also, people might see that fan spinning over their head and liken it to a whirling blade of death! What if they were 8 feet tall! the fan could knock off their head! What if they jumped for joy? If they put their hands in the air that fan will cut them off! Aaaaaa!

Hahaha, I'm pretty sure ALL of the ones on here are odd, not just some lol. But I seriously was tempted to just add somewhere in there in tiny text, "fear of bees". Or even better "Fear of immobility of a joint". It would have been even better if I had done that and someone had noticed XD, oh the lulz.
Hmm, I never knew that about Asian culture. Very interesting. Wierd for sure, but interesting. Though I suppose its not very surprising, given how superstitious their culture is. But admittedly, it is kind of humorous, a suffocation label on a ceiling fan lol.
You know, as I type this, sitting on my bed and looking up at my ceiling fan as it dauntingly whirls 'round and 'round like some macabre chainsaw of death, I can't help but be thankful for my shortness XD

Well, of course it isn't every Asian country that has that label on fans. I think it's in Korea. And it gets even funnier, because I don't even know if they sell ceiling fans, for that reason. They have that warning label on regular room fans too! But a suffocation label on a ceiling fan means a ceiling fan is is a chainsaw of death the creates a vortex where oxygen is from the air.
I wish my room had a ceiling high enough for a fan. A 7 foot ceiling isn't high enough for that.
You should make a "remix" of this picture. In the new version, you put some crazy fears in there, then sit back and wait for the lulz, like you're watching a baited trap. A watched pot never boils though, especially on dA, and it probably wouldn't count if I noticed because I said it.

I wonder where that came from, a fear of ceiling fans because of vortexes (that doesn't sound right does it, vortexes. Hmmm, vortexi? No. Now I have to go look that up. Anyways, back to the actual subject of conversation) they supposedly create. I mean, I guess if you were told that all your life I could see how one would be afraid of something like that happening. Admittedly, votexes (?) are pretty scary, kinda like black holes I imagine, but the fact is that myth had to come from somewhere. So then it must really suck in summer time, like if you have a really hot room without windows, that would be terrible!
Oh, but that does sound fun . I should go back and do that, make a remixed version, shouldn't I? I'm sure you wouldn't. be the only one to notice, there are some pretty charp-eyed people on DA. I'm sure there will be a couple of others who will notice and join in on the lulz. After they get over the initial reaction of WTF, that is.

I was thinking I might be the only one to notice just because of how hard it can be or how long it can take to get some quality comment(s) on your deviations sometimes. Or even views! You should definitely make that remixed version though! Will you be using the same background art?
I think that fan myth was created because someone died a mysterious death in front of a fan. One that had to do with not breathing right. So that confirmed everyone's suspicions on what the fans could do!

Very true, about the whole quality comments thing. It can take a while, but hopefully someone will notice. And if they don't, oh well, at least it'll still be somewhat amusing to be me and you I probably will use the same picture, just because of premission issues. Sometimes it can take a while to get responses from artists, which I perfectly understand, but I'm the kind of person who, once I get an idea in my head, I don't want to wait to execute that idea. So what I know I would end up doing is ask the artist for permission, then work on and possibly finish the art, and then the artist would reply. It would be a shame to do all the work only to have to do it over again because the artist didn't give me permission, so since I already have permission I'll more than likely just use this one. Unless you have a better idea or something? Or were you just curious?
Okay, I could see that. I mean, now that I think about it, I'm sure to some Asian cultures we have some pretty insane myths too. So I guess its all a matter of perspective.

I think a difference between us and Asian cultures though, is that most of our myths were beaten out by either science or practicality, as a result of having so many cultures with so many ideas and myths all wrapped together. The myths we have left though are worse, because they're almost all born out of hate, even if they transformed from something hateful to something stupid.
I have that same issue as you, except me, what I do, is I ask for permission a million years before I need it, often asking twice. By the time the artist responds... well, I still won't have gotten to starting yet. For example, I asked for permission to use a character, Reina Oguchi, in a future comic probably six months ago. Haven't even started. And AFTER that I'm going to do Todd VS Dave, and I've already collected permissions from all the people I need it from. 6 people. I've got the "permissions slips" all collected, so once it's time to go, I can just go!
I guess with you working really slow though you could just get started and hopefully get the artist's permission BEFORE you finish.
I didn't realize that the background art wasn't yours... I thought you just drew this and it was fine. In fact, I thought it was a captain from the anime, Bleach! Wrong person!

Yeah, you make a pretty good point. I guess most of our myths have been debunked by science. We have mythbusters to thank for that But then again, they are still going pretty strong (or at least last I heard they were) so obviously there are myths still out there I guess. But now after, what? Like 10 seasons or so, they're onto myths that aren't as commonly heard of than they used to. And most of our main "myths" are things like big foot, and what culture doesn't have its own version of big foot?
Yeah, see I can have that problem too sometimes. Because for me its either I start as soon as it comes to me or either A) eats me up on the inside until I FINALLY do it; or B) It eats me up on the inside until I forget about it for months on end. Because I'm forgetful like that XD But its good that you've gotten all your "permission slips" already, makes getting started all that much easier.
Hahaha, no. I WISH it was mine. And I had considered actually drawing it but decided against it since the main point and draw of the piece was supposed to be the concept of misconstrewed fear, not the actual art. If you watch Soul Eater, it's Asura (which I'm assuming you don't since you thought he was from Bleach )

I guess even a society that's short on myths still has a lot of them. Kind of like, even though we have lots of science, just how science's discoveries usually just lead to more questions, they can also lead to more myths. So maybe what we lack in magnitude of the myth, compared to more superstitious places, we make up for in mythical quantity? And some people won't lose their beliefs in the myths even if the Mythbusters do debunk it.
And didn't the Mythbusters do an awful lot of myth busting? I remember when I lived in another state The Discovery Channel really sucked because it very practically only had four programs on it. That's funny, because that's like it's like a video game or something! That's what you'd expect to see in a game, not real life. Only four programs. Stations did better than that when there were only four channels! The only shows that came on were MythBusters, How It's Made, Dirty Jobs, and one other show I think... I guess the Mythbusters had a lot of show making to do to fill all the gaps in The Discovery Channel lineup. Steve Rowe couldn't do it all by himself, and How It's Made only came on a few times in the day, mostly mornings.
My anime problem is that I really like anime, but watch very little of it. I do the same thing with video games. What that means is that even though I like those things, I can't really relate or recognize very well because I only get into a handful of things. The only video games I play right now are Skyrim and Mario Kart Wii, and the only animes I ever really got into I could put on a short list.
The only animes I ever watched for an extended period were these:
POKeMON (lost interest when I grew up)
Bleach (lost interest after they rescued Rukia from execution)
Mermaid Melody ( ) (lost interest when I realized how hard the second season of it sucked. They must have changed writers or something)
Trinity Blood (lost interest in it when Adult Swim lost interest in it)
Blood
Death Note
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi
Lucky Star
Chobits
K-On!!
I watched just about every episode of the ones I didn't lose interest in. Even all 8 episodes of the infamous Endless Eight. There might be an anime or two missing from that list, and there are shows on my to-watch list too.

Right. I mean, I guess it's kind of like of big foot. A million tv shows can come along and debunk the myth and a million scientists can say there is no possible way for a creature like that to exist in such way (or something like that. I'm a history-nerd, not a science-nerd, so I'm not quite sure about that XD) But I bet you some hillbilly from the mountains of California or a group of cryptozoologists will swear up and down that big foot exists.
Thankfully, the Discovery Channel has gotten a bit better about that. But I will admit, I'm kinda a sucker for Shark Week, I can't deny it. Buuuuuut, four shows is simply not enough. Especially when one of them Is How It's Made. I'm not sure if you like that show, and I guess I'm sorry if you do, but that show puts me to sleep in a minute. Which is great at four o'clock at night, but not so much when I'm trying to read for school. The narrator is just so monotone and boring. The show might actually be intereting if it didn't put me to sleep like one of those "sounds of the ocean" CDs.
My thing with anime is that I used to really be into it but then a few years ago I just lost interest. There are a few that I still read the managas of, like Kuroshitsuji and Soul Eater, so basically the deep, complex ones, but besides that I've lost interest. I used to watch Pokemon, but that was when I was like eight or so, so I'm not sure if that counts . I never really got into Bleach, I don't know why, just never did. Mermaid Melody, I've actually never heard of that one. But it does sound slightly interesting. Trinity Blood, I had a friend who was really into that one and I tried to read the manga but its set up was confusing. So much so that you had no idea what was going on, who was talking or anything. So I pretty much gave up on that one after the first chapter. Death Note I loved. It really was amazing! And then the other three, I've heard of but never really bothered to check out. The one I was really into when I watched anime was Naruto. Now that I look back at it it really wasn't all that great of a show. Sure, it had its moments, but overall it wasn't great.

With Bigfoot, the creator of the myth himself personally admitted on his deathbed that the original BigFoot sighting was actually his wife fooling around in a gorilla costume. Must've had a pretty big wife. But still, people still believe...
I.. guess I have a longer attention span than you, but I could easily stay awake for an entire episode of How It's Made, despite the narrator's rather boring narrations. I remember being fascinated by how vinyl records are made- and the fact that they still ARE made! And even if the show is too boring, it can still be fun looking at all the moving parts of the machines making the things. No? Well, 4 and 5 am is when I remember that show being dominant on the channel. So how many seasons has that show been on?!
Discovery Channel STILL only has four shows?! What are the four now? Mythbusters, How It's Made, Dirty Jobs, and what else? Don't tell me it's the same 4th show it was in '08!! Which I don't remember, but will if you tell me it.
I wasted the perfectly good "" I typed after Mermaid Melody because you've never heard of it! If you ever look into it, I'd recommend the anime instead of the manga simply because music is central to the story. But then once you find out what it is I'll need an "", or maybe another "" Trinity Blood I would say skip the manga and watch the anime. The anime made perfect sense. Death Note... now that I think of it, I can't imagine how intense that manga must have been. All I saw was the show. It was worth staying up 'till midnight to see on Adult Swim. I remember when Adult Swim made a joke in a commercial saying that Death Note might get cancelled- right before they got to the last episodes! And those bastards were joking, and they got me! I was like "How COULD they!? But there were only joking. Stupid network commercial. I watched a little Naruto (VERY little), but I can see how someone could say what you just said that it wasn't that great of a show, but it could still be SO popular.
And what you said about Pokemon was great because I was having that same doubt! I'd use another "", but as you could tell from reading above, I'm running a little short on "'s" at the moment. Gotta get some more.
You can probably tell I'm more into anime than manga. The only ones where I would really be interested in the mangas are The Haruhi Show (main one! There was SO much from the manga that didn't make it into the show! They could easily make another season, especially since they did so little with the second one!), Lucky Star, Death Note (Nah... I don't think I could handle that. Scratch that), and that's about it.
Cryptozoologists... o.O
