Description The title suggests a dark image but this was actually inspired by alot of happiness in my life right now.
In the beginning, I wanted this to be a flat profile of Dia's motion and the background was going to be Show ring themed but I couldn't get her gait to reach properly. You may notice that her hind legs are too long, in an attempt to create that "A". But that's ok! dia isn't a show quality dog, infact she is very "unstandard". If she reached out enough her legs would over-reach and she is aprox. 23-24 inches?(DQ for sibe bitches in the States) Since the Iditarod didn't air on my cable service, I read about it, hence the harness and snowy scene. The image represents leaving what you know and are comfortable in and racing into new, exciting territory.

Beautiful as always....

Each time you draw her she seems to get more beautiful. I love the swirl on her neck and the dark markings on her shoulders and hips.

Very nice harness, by the way.....she seems to have got unclipped from her team! Is this the first time I've seen one of your portraits with a harness on? Technically that is very impressive - so many people try to draw them and just make a mess of it - that you have produced not only the correct shape and lie of the harness but they way it is stitched and the way the light falls on the webbing is SERIOUSLY impressive. You can tell I am a bit in awe of that!

The other thing you may have done deliberately, but then again may just have been instinct, is that her front movement is completely correct for her shoulder construction. Have a look at her angulation - it's rather straight and very Saluki-like (methinks I can see that sighthound fan poking through there!! ) which would have exactly the effect on her forward reach you have drawn. Her rear angulation is much more standard Sibe, and of course she's got all that rearward drive as a result.

Now you may have carefully sat down and drawn all that deliberately as a lesson in the way that bone structure affects movement.....but even if you did, I still think that this picture shows not only a great talent, but a natural EYE for the way dogs move and for conformation. You really, really know your subject, Dia. I have a lot to learn from you!

Can you tell I like this picture...???

Sirius says "Arrooooowah!" I don't know what it meant, but it sounds good.

Few! Finally found time to sit down and respond properly.
As for the harness,Thank-you xD My siblings had just finished running a couple of the sibes so I took the chance to use them as models. I wanted the harness to look rather slack, without giving the illusion of "chucks" and I can't say I achieved that >___>

Its funny you should mention a Saluki! I was actually practicing drawing one the other day as a possible alternate fursona. Perhaps I accidently took that mind set when i drew this xD

Looks awesome =] And in art, you dont have to obide by standards and rules. You could have overstretched her legs easy and it would have looked lovely and quite creative and flashy. =] Never let the real life hinder your art.
