Description
Yerin had grown a little sulky ever since her best friend had been adopted. She celebrated the fact that her friend had now recieved the forever home that she deserved, but she couldn’t help but get sad every morning she woke up without her on the bunk just above her own, waking her up by either poking her head down and smiling, or just falling off the bunk in general.
Dragging herself out of bed, Yerin padded down the hallway and headed in the opposite direction of the dining hall. Apparently her appetite had moved away with her friend.
There we're few other children playing in the playroom this early in the morning, most of which we're kids who couldn’t stomach breakfast either, or would have just rather played than eaten. Yerin hurried off to a corner of the room, not bothering to say hello to any of the passing wynglings, as she prefered to watch rather than join other wynglings these days. Perhaps it was because Jinxie had always gotten into some sort of trouble and Yerin spent most of her time trying to groom Jinxie into being less troublesome (to no avail) that she had completely forgotten how to approach another gro. The realization hit her so suddenly that all Yerin could do to keep from scrunching her face up in embarrassment was to bury her face in her paws. If she hadn’t spent so much time trying to turn Jinxie into something she wasn’t, maybe she would have been able to cope a little easier without her always by her side. Afterall, Jinxie may have been a troublemaker, but she was the only reason why Yerin spoke to anyone else in the first place. She was outgoing and cheerful, and everything that Yerin wished she was.
Yeah sure, Yerin had a pretty face and was bilingual, but what's the point of having either of those things if you don't even have the courage to speak to another gro? How could she expect to get close to someone special if she can’t manage a simple hello?
Yerin wrinkled her nose and buried her face deeper. If she thought about it anymore she was sure that she would cry, and that was something that she saved for either Jinxie to see, or in the comfort of her bedroom, NOT the random Wynglings around the nook.
“H-hello” a voice sounded above her. Yerin tensed for a second only peeking through her paws to confirm that the voice was directed at someone else, not her. She was wrong. A timid looking orange wyngling stood to her right, nervously looking down at his paws and then messing with the cloth around his neck. She blinked at him and then lifted her head fully, giving him her full attention. She may have been upset but she wasn’t impolite.
“I um- I saw you here alone and um- I was wondering if you wanted to play..?” He mumbled, quickly throwing in an “Er- Only if you want though!” for good measure.
Yerin blinked at him a few more times and contemplated her options. She could either move around the nook every day and sulk, most likely never get adopted, and then continue sulking into adulthood, OR she could follow in this boys lead and feign confidence enough to make a few friends. Afterall, Jinxie still visited the Nook, and there must be a time where she would be able to go sleep over every once and a while, so pouting was useless anyway. Plus, if this clearly nervous and uncomfortable boy could face his fears and come talk, then Yerin could do the same. So she smiled and stood up.
“Sure! But first lets go get some breakfast, im starving!”
