Description In the D.A.R. (Daughters of the Revolution) Colonial Cemetery, there is this huge tree, that is one of those weird, smooth trees that don't seem to have any bark (anyone know what they are?). It is so soft to the touch, but so eerie, because it seems more made of muscle than wood, but that is neither here nor there~

In this cemetery, there is a huge one of these trees, covered in Spanish Moss. The moss is this eerie gray/green color (much like the DeviantArt site, come to think of it) because it is winter, so it's not green, and that just adds more to the kind of creepy feeling that the cemetery had.

Well, this is right under that tree, using a tripod (thankfully we brought it with!) to get the angle - and the only shot of it that didn't wash out from the sun light.

I'm very happy with this picture, even the sky showing through.

You can see more of the images from the cemetery, and my trip to Savannah in general, over at my stock account @ ~taeliac-stock (tons of headstones and grave markers!)

The perspective, lighting, composition, it's all just wonderful! I love cool trees. Especially in graveyards.

Thank you so much! I really, really tried to get the best shot possible (much to Chris's annoyance, I think, making him just stand around as I keep taking photos of trees!) and it means a lot to me that you like it

ah! I know what you mean! I'd like to start taking more "artsy" cosplay photos at conventions and of my friends, but they dont have the patience for me. I'd probably take a shot of the same pose for 10 minutes if they would stay still....

Well, if I ever get to the area you're in for a convention or just for the heck of it, you can take as many arty photos of us in our various costumes - I like that a lot better than having no idea what to do as a pose, and just snap and walk away That always confuses me

Well, from what I've come to learn from the trees near the coast, they droop down like that because of the salt in the air. Also why the bark is absent. Do you remember what the needles/leaves looked like?

They actually didn't have any needles or leaves on them - they were pretty much barren, I might have a few more pictures of them, but I don't think so... which is too bad, because that would definitely help to identify them

I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with salts in the air, that was one of those things I noticed right away when we got there~ the smell!

I know! This stuff, you just really want to touch, it's amazingly soft and so smooth... very weird, different from anything around here, at least

I saw them allot when I was down south, around Mississippi and Alabama... I know nothing of American Geography, I was driving to Florida.

I am pretty sure it's a soft wood (being from BC we can just tell what sorta lumber it is by looking at it @_@) but other then that, I have no idea. Try looking it up on Wikipedia, maybe, with tags like softwood and... where ever it was you saw it XD

Ooh, yeah ~ down south, they have a lot of them, it seems (probably because they're some of the oldest parts of the country) and they're all so... well, old! I've never seen a headstone dated earlier than 1880 or so further north up here, so things dated 1790 just freaked me out a little

We were told what type of tree it was, but I just can't for the life of me remember - I will definitely try to figure it out tomorrow, though Grand idea, searching that way!
