If you are disappointed by the small size of this peice, that is because it was drawn on a peice of paper about 4 x 6 inches. I place it here because it is one of the most virtuouso peices of pencilwork I have ever done, and one of my favorite illustrations. Sorry about the size, but I hope you enjoy it.Related content

A fantastic piece - I love the consistency you've achieved with the pencil strokes for the billowing smoke or fog. The gradients are smooth and really remarkable, especially with the size at which you were working.

Thanks. I don't get too happy about most of my illustrations, but these this and the Battle of Munda, also here, are easily two of my most virtuoso pencil illustrations. They're also the only two original illustrations I currently have framed and hung in my house.
Certainly I can be self-indulgent every once and a while... I hope.

I don't know that it took that long. It is, actually, rather small. I think I did it all in one sitting, more or less, while distracted.
