The Challenger-class tactical destroyer is a special-purpose warship designed as a strategic strike and command ship.

The ship is a slightly larger variant of the Gladiator-class destroyer armed with more modern and longer ranged weapons, additional torpedo launchers and a universal docking port, capable of various functions, including transporting smaller vessels, large shipping containers, and deep space surveillance satellites.

The Challenger-class operates mostly as a command unit of small fast-response fleet groups and special-purpose destroyer squadrons attached to battlegroups. Tactical destroyers are occasionally deployed on their own as heavily armed “aggressive reconnaissance” strike ships.
