Description
Noura sat on the edge of the bullet-spattered dock and shivered. She gazed into the darkness, shell-shocked, but alive. The rivulets of dirty water running from her soaked hair made it impossible to tell if her face was still bleeding. Distant gunfire and shell blasts still made her flinch with every crack. Everything hurt.

"You have had quite the night." the massive figure said in a smooth, Slavic accent. "How are you feeling?"

"Like shit. Fuck, that hurt."

The figure chuckled softly. "My dear, you almost died."

"Not the first time." said Noura as a particularly large explosion rocked the hills behind her. "I'm used to it."

"And you are not scared of me."

Noura gazed up and got her first look at her rescuer. The towering woman kneeled in the water. Her head, easily a hundred meters above, was silhouetted against the moonlight. A pair of glowing, silver-blue eyes bore down on Noura.

"I've seen worse." Noura said, maintaining eye contact. "Who the fuck are you?"

"I am Reda, the creature answered. I have been following your little war for some time. I travel around to see the sights you humans have to offer. It is not always that impressive, to be honest."

"Yeah, Lebanon's kinda fucked right now." Noura coughed as another shockwave shook the dock. "What do you want?"

"I want to help."

"Oh, you want to help?" Noura growled. "You mean like the Red Cross, who don't have enough bandages? You mean like the Syrians, the Israelis, the French, the Americans, or the rebels? They don't do shit."

Reda laughed again. "Oh dear, I was not talking about helping that lot." Reda leaned closer to get a better look at Noura. "You are a fighter. I just watched you survive getting thrown into the ocean and now you are sassing me! You...you are more impressive than they could ever be."

"I'm tired of feeling like the only adult in this fucking country, and I still can't do anything." Noura said. "I want the power to change something, do something, get revenge. It's been years and I'm fucking angry, don't you get it?"

"I do." Reda said, her face close enough for Noura to feel her breath. "You want power, you say? Then I ask: how much?"

Suddenly, the dark horizon lit up with nine, sequenced flashes. A freight-train-like roar sounded as shells the size of cars passed overhead, falling inland, toward the Syrians in the mountains. They were 16-inch shells from the USS New Jersey. Noura knew the sound too well by now.

"I want to be that powerful."

Noura would remember that moment for the rest of her life. The way Reda smiled, the anger boiling over into crazed hope, it was an intoxicating feeling. She would cherish that decision as she transformed, as she was let loose upon the world. One day, Noura hoped that she could return to Lebanon. For now though, the world would know her wrath as the angry Rukh, an apex predator who had her gaze set on humanity.

Wow, this was a difficult one. Aside from crazy schedules, finding inspiration for a flying kaiju was more difficult than I anticipated. Hell, the name "Noura" was something I came up with at the last minute. Middle Eastern giantesses are a rarity and, like with Reda, I wanted to be different. Noura takes inspiration from the mythical Roc (or "Rukh," as it is sometimes spelled). Her history as a human has her as a refugee from the Lebanese Civil Wars of the 1980s. She comes from a turbulent time, and has a fiery personality to boot. The image above takes place many years after her transformation, with Noura attacking a bridge. No spoilers beyond that, though if you look closely at the bridge, you may be able to discern where this takes place...
