The canvas size can be any size and doesn't have to be sqaure. For example:

You have to use the 'Add Media' button and search for it - only a small selection of emotes can be used with those codes

I do have a few questions. I know it you hear this a lot, but I love your style of pixeling, and I would like to ask a few things that I have been stumped on.
First, what program do you use? I understand the program has a very important part on the animation process and even the shading, yes?
Second, how do you make a proper background? I find it difficult to place the shades in the correct places and make them all blend. Especially with open areas with few objects such as a sky or an empty room.
Third, is there a program that does these things for you? Not to sound lazy, because I kind of like the old fassioned way of doing everything by hand, but I ask this because I've heard a few people ask if they edit things directly or by hand.
Fourth and final, which program do you think is the best for animation?

1) I use 2 programs. PaintShop Pro 12 to make each frame then ulead gif animator 5 to string the frames together. It can have some affect on your animation, but I can't say it really affects your shading unless you are using tools like gradient fill
2) It is really just about practice. You can always zoom in on someone else's work to see how they have managed it and to take inspiration from (just don't copy pixel for pixel). there are some tutorials here which can help you blend the colours: [link] [link]
3) I don't know of any program that could do that. There are some free for use pixel backgrounds but I don't suggest using them - it really doesn't help you learn. However if you must use them then remember to make sure they are free for use and that you correctly credit them. The only way to improve is practice so being lazy really wont help you in the long run.
4) There isn't really a 'best program' for emotes or animation. It is really just about finding a program which you like and enjoy working with. Whilst Photoshop/Fireworks do have some features that can make animation easier, they also cost money. GIMP is a free equivalent which isn't quite as user friendly but still works well. I wouldn't highly recommend using 2 different programs like I do - it makes complex animations more difficult as you can only see 1 frame at a time. So I just suggest trying a few and finding what you like best

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean how do I get it to display the code like :iconsynfull: instead of ?

How do you use transparency in MS Paint?

Synfull In reply to JediSandwich [2011-03-16 00:22:27 +0000 UTC]
There isn't actually anyway to do it in MS paint. However there are free programs (and possibly online programs) which can remove backgrounds. Check out this page for more info: [link]
