Description I've made one walk cycle ever, three years ago. It was of a cervid. It did not have wings. Or feathers. Or color. So naturally the next step was the winged, feathered, gradiented, striped monstrosity that is Noctla. Sooo... two months of time and one and a half weeks of actual work later, here we are.

I am a masochist.

In all honesty, this didn't really take a long time, just a lot of mental effort. I finished the sketches in two days, the lines in two or three days, and the colors in about a week. Along the way was a lot of exceptional nitpicking that unfortunately still didn't catch all the issues. I know this still isn't perfect; the gradient on the tail jumps around a lot and some blue got smeared into it from the feathers because photoshop is a bitch has a really crappy blur tool so I had to use the weird "mixer brush" tool that has the unfortunate habit of picking up colors that are well outside the range of your brush; some of the stripes jump around a little too much for my liking, especially the spotty bits; I had to modify some of Noctla's markings, namely reducing them as they went further down her legs, because I couldn't make them fit; her far ear should probably be visible; there should probably be some back and forth on her head; and, of course, I really didn't quite nail the leg pattern but I didn't really realize it until I was done with the lines, and because the motion of every part of the body connects, I'd've had to redo the entire thing to fix it and I wasn't about to do that.
So uh, if you notice any issues, don't tell me yet, I probably know but I want to pretend people won't notice lol

So kids, the takeaway: there is a reason animated characters don't have gradients, complicated color patterns, or a million limbs. I knew this going in but apparently I wanted to do Noctla anyway because in case you haven't heard I guess I'm a masochist. Eugh. And uh, I'm really not sure why I decided I had to do the walk cycle now but whatever. Tis done.

If anybody seems to be interested, I might make a P2U walk cycle base or maybe commishes or something. I dunno.

really nice! i like how the perspective on the wings changes so they match the rotating shoulders.

i think the one thing that looks a bit stiff are the feet. just before they set back onto the ground the toes should still drag a bit after as the paw is coming down so to speak. difficult to describe xD

the drag on the paws as the wrist goes forward looks nice tho b

I know what you mean- the paw needs to touch down behind where the toes were in the previous frame since the toes touch first and the paws land behind them. By the time I realized the feet were too far ahead when they touch down I was well into lining and if I'd moved the leg and paw from the previous frame further forward I would've had to redo all the in-the-air frames before it to keep the spacing even, and if I'd moved the leg on the frame where it first sets down, it would've made the stretch of the legs a little too small for my liking. I uh, spent a while agonizing over whether I should fix it but I eventually decided not to.
Thank you for the critique! Honestly, I thought about asking around for them but I didn't know if people would actually notice things so I just... didn't lol. And I'm glad you like it

Hahaha well I can't teach you, but there's a lot of amazing resources on youtube you can use to learn! Aaron Blaise is one, but there's a bunch you can look through to find what works for you.

SO lovely! I especially like how the secondary motions were worked in as well (ie. ears, wings bouncing).

Thank you! And yeah, I actually took a lot of inspiration from NorthernRed when I worked in the secondary motions- they make absolutely amazing walk cycles.

I’ve just been staring at this for a solid 5 minutes. This is just so smooth! Even the stripes, spots and gradient. They move so well with the body, If I would try anything like this they would jump all over the place

Heh don't stare at it for too long or the flaws will start showing through XD Thank you! And if you ever do anything like this, just know- copy/paste is your best friend!
