Description I've started using Clip Studio and made a mod on the mapping pen to make it sharp the way I like it.  I can't quite draw the same way as I would in Photoshop...  I need to be much more slow and methodical, but I think it works regardless.  Curious what you think.  I will try to do more drawing in Clip Studio from now on, but the colouring was still done in Photoshop.

I like it! When I look at her face she looks pleasant to look at, but when I shift my gaze to get shoulders I can't help but get the feeling that she's broken. I finally figured out why that was. Visually the picture looks good with all the colors, but her neck proportion seems broken. Too long of a neck

I'm o-Kei with this.
Silly puns aside, this looks really good!
It's that kind of thing that makes me fanboy about how good you are.
The kind of thing that makes me go "Whoah, I wanna do that"
So does this mean you're done with Kei or are you still gonna fine-tune some more?

I'm glad you like it!

I think I'm done with the body and face of Kei, but I think it's best to leave the design open so she can wear different outfits and stuff.  I'm sure she'll change over time ( hopefully for the better ), but I'm comfortable starting from here.

She's part of Afinity right?

Will you be covering other characters in your "Creating Kei" series?

Sycra In reply to Telepurte [2016-04-07 22:42:21 +0000 UTC]

Nope, Kei has nothing to do with Affinity.  She's part of Space Waitress Kei, and I made it because Affinity is not gonna be done for a long time and isn't being drawn by me.

Sycra I spent the last couple months drawing mostly from imagination and I have improved significantly, but I now realized that I really suck at drawing from reference my proportions are off and I can't really get the values right (Although from imagination I still really suck at values). You think I should just keep going from the imagination and do like 1 from reference a day or spend most of the day copying to try and get realistic drawings and then practice from imagination after I can do realistic drawings? I plan on becoming a tattoo artist but I spend most of the time drawing faces because I think if I can learn to draw a face well I can learn to draw anything. Don't worry about responding this but I thought it was worth a shot since you replied to my last comment, take care and keep up the good work.

Hmm...  Well, I'm not really familiar with tattoo art and what you need to do practice, but just guessing I'm thinking it's probably important to be able to draw proportionally and according to reference right?  It does take some time to get decent with drawing from reference, but the more you work at it, the easier it gets, so don't give up.  In terms of what you should study, I feel a tattoo artist would be able to give you better advice though.

It feels different than on Photoshop but I like it.
Even if I love your "complex" render, the simplicity fits you very well too

I'm glad you liked that one, but it's a different image so the pose is different.

Ether-Man In reply to Sycra [2016-04-05 21:53:05 +0000 UTC]

Well yeah I just think the similarities warrant comparison.
I can phrase it differently; In my opinion (and I recognize you're a better artist than me) the pose from your painting would have worked better here than the one you went with. Thanks for responding

Thanks man.  I'm gonna try making them diamond shaped from now on, cuz I really like the effect but I'm afraid it looks too low-res pixelly instead of intentionally pixelly.
