"That dragon thought by destroying castles, burning our villages and killing our people, it taught us to fear him; but the only thing that dragon taught us... is Vengeance."
--- A Dragon Hunter, reminiscing the time when dragons torched his city and killed his family.
Years of vengeance-craze and training later, he and his fellow dragon hunters would go on to kill that dragon and every other ones they can find, freeing the kingdom from the dragons' terror forever.

Amazing use of perspective friend. I'm thinking their lack of fear comes from their shock and surprise from the unexpected attack.
