She was born with a long curly mane and it was a disaster. It was always full of fallen leaves, thin twigs and fading petals, and every morning in spring and summer she found a new couple of birds trying to weave a nest in her mane. All the unicorns she has ever seen were always so neat and cozy with their hair short but lank and shiny. They all but her parents looked down at her like she was a sloven but she just couldn’t do anything with that. One evening she was crying loud on a lake shore when suddenly somebody asked her if he could help. It was an elderly gnome smoking a pipe and resting with his friends on a meadow near there. She told him about the trouble of her life and when she said, she might be cursed, the gnome burst out laughing: “Long hair always get tangled, it’s not a curse, - he said. – My beard would look the same if I didn’t comb it every day. Come here every evening and my friends and I will comb your hair”. The gnomes took wooden combs out of their backpacks and started working. Such an easy procedure had changed the very essence of her appearance and there was no more beautiful creature in the forest than her since then.
