Description
While Atlantis was certainly the most famous of Earth's undersea civilisations, it was not the only one.
There were seven, in fact. Seven kingdoms of the deep, though all their kings and queens and high lords were subjects to the monarch of Atlantis.
For a long time, this was fine. Up until the rule of Queen Atlanta, all seven prospered. But then she died, and her son ascended to the throne. His reign was...divisive, at best. Born and raised on the surface world, he wished to reveal Atlantis to the surface, to trade with them and to encourage more dialogue and understanding among both groups, and to stand among their presidents and prime ministers as an equal, as the ruler of Atlantis.
For a society that had spent the last few thousand years in isolation, the idea of suddenly being thrust onto the global stage was more than a little terrifying.
Many did not believe this decision was the best course of action for Atlantis. After centuries of serving as the surface world's dumping ground, only knowing the world above from the wreckage and trash that fell to the ocean floor, the majority of Atlanteans wanted nothing to do with the surface.
Xebel even sent an assassin to put an end to Arthur's reign over Atlantis.
The damn fool Mera ended up falling in love with him.
Just as you had fallen in love with her the moment you had set eyes on her.
Xebel, Venturia, the Deluge - an isolationist terrorist group violently opposed to Atlantean relations to the surface - and even N.E.M.O., a group of surface dwellers who hated Arthur even more than most Atlanteans did, all had plans set into motion to end the new king's life...but personally, you were more interested in his soon-to-be queen...
Mera enjoyed exploring, and often ventured far from her beloved, and the lights and safety of Atlantis. After a few months watching her beauty from afar, you knew her routine, and this paritcular solitary swim from the city was not quite as solitary as imagined...

(So I kinda have a couple of ideas for this one, and in the interests of diversity I tried to leave the starter caption as open-ended as possible.
1. the 'player' character has found some long-lost artefact enabling them to control minds. Like, say, the Horn of Hypnos, or whatever. The oceans are massive, after all, there's bound to be all sorts of nutty stuff hidden away down there...
2. the character has managed to tame some kind of angler fish type leviathan. Similar to when Orm rode a kraken like a chariot in DC's Bombshells comic! Angler Fish, for those of you who don't know, have this little light on a dangly bit in front of their faces, and use that light to essentially hypnotize smaller fish into literally swimming into their jaws. Their immense, terrifying jaws, with their weird, oversized, needle-like teeth. They're the stuff nightmares are made of.
Obviously, if you've got any other/better ideas, you're welcome to go with those instead!)

I've started reading Aquaman since Rebirth and it's...surprisingly awesome.
Between that, Mera having been one of my favourite DC characters for quite a while, Khal Drogo finally making Aquaman awesome in the mainstream, and Amber Heard's frigging gorgeous face and Mera costume, this simply had to happen sooner or later.
I've got a couple of pictures I want to use, and couldn't decide between them, so they're both gonna be uploaded, sooner or later. This one focuses more on the Atlantis and magical sides of things. If you're more into science and the surface world, check out: thestonemiester1.deviantart.co…
