Neville Longbottom is perhaps my favorite literary character of all time and by far my favorite Harry Potter character. To me he is braver than Harry ever was. Harry\'s parents were dead, and yes he was abused by his aunt and uncle and had to relive the moments of their death various times through the series. But I cannot even comprehend how Neville must have lived. Every day knowing that his parents were alive, constantly reminded by his relatives how he failed to live up to them, and every day hoping that one day they would be better and he could be happy. Harry had Ron and Hermione, the best friends you could ask for. Neville went through most of his years at Hogwarts alone, never being the best or regarded as much more than a joke. I remember laughing at Neville\'s silliness when I read the first few books. But can you imagine? Not getting gifts from friends for your birthday, the most prized possessions you have are mocked by your fellow students, but they mean more to him than any gift I have ever seen. To him they mean that his family is slowly realizing his worth, and that his mother loves him so much that she can remember that love when all the rest of her memories are gone. Yet though all that Neville remains loyal to those who he knows are right and just and stands up to Voldemort and fucking destroys the 7th Horcrux like the champion he had always been inside. Neville is brave and loyal and a far stronger person than I can even hope to be.
