Description
While in a production of the Tempest ~catchbreath and I came up with a back story for our characters. We decided Caliban and Miranda once loved each other, but Prospero was disgusted by the idea of his daughter and caliban together so he enchanted them to hate each other. I would go into more detail, but the only people who would ever want to know the whole story probably already do.I've been wanting to do this piece for so long!

You just expressed one of my headcanons exactly. Especially since Caliban complains that Prospero treated him nicely until he started liking Miranda and then kicked him out and treated him like a slave, causing him to hate both of them - and you'd assume that Miranda ought to be a little upset, because 'Hey, Dad, what happened with the only other person I know?' but she simply acts as if she doesn't know Caliban in the slightest.

What a sad concept, but very Shakespearean. I actually like the concept, sad as it is. This piece is lovely, and no worries, because you brought the focus in exactly where you wanted it. Actually, I worry about that myself sometimes, so what I do is look at it at the thumbnail size. If my eye focuses on the tiny image at the right place, I know the large version will probably be right.

I totally want to know the whole story. I read the book Caliban's Hour long before ever actually reading the play (whoops), so when I did, I came into it already feeling sympathetic towards Caliban and fully convinced that Ariel was a wonderful version of the Magnificent B*****d. Besides, like a lot of Shakespearean 'ships...it's really quite plausible (honestly, strikes me as nicer than the actual canon one).
Ha, I actually only just noticed Ariel and Prospero in the background, and it took me looking a fourth time to even see Ariel. I like that, really captures the whole mist-shrouded island thing. This is really straight-up gorgeous. And the background--the background!

Thank you! I was worried Prospero and Ariel would be too noticeable, especially since the focus of the piece isn't in the center.
I've never heard of the book Caliban's hour, I've been looking for something similar to it for a while, but all I can find is books on the analysis of the character. I'll have to check it out.
