This will have relevence, I promise.....
I read an article on weapons used in Iraq.
One of the more insidious ones is the bullets coated with depleted uranium.
When shot, it has awesome penetrating power, but it releases uranium dust.
this dust travels along in the air for awhile, raching soldiers and civilians, often becoming lodged in their lungs.
once lodged, it can have damaging effects, screwing with genetic codes, causeing cancer, etc.
one of the worst effect is the effects had on children. Babies born to people who have been exposed to the depleted uranium have shocking deformations, often not being able to live past birth.
the sculpture sort of looks like one of those babies.
which, most certainly not meant to be an insult. I the face, looked at it, liked it, and then tried to think of what it reminded me of, and that's it.
