Description This sagar is 14 by 8 inches. It is still a favorite piece, probably because the symbolism is so personal.

The title "Sagar: Still Life" originated because it is a sagar, and a sagar is a vessel that is meant to be fired with other ceramic pieces inside of it. These pieces are surrounded by flamable objects like dried weeds, wood chips, and I added some of the hair I lost to create the surface this piece. The firing is a symbol of the radiation treatments. It is also the emotions that the brain goes through when grasping the events of a cancer patient.

As for the "Still Life" it is a person who has been faced with a trauma that makes life, well, still. In my case Hodgkin's Lymphoma and the year of chemo and radiation treatments. I was only 25-27, and trying to grasp the concept of what happened and who I had become as a result.

The hair, which looks like flowers, is usually thought of as a sign of peace, but it is actually the cells from my lymph nodes.

As for the face, it goes back to a favorite sculpture of mine created by Brancusi. www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h… I actually wish that I kept this sculpture plane, without glaze so that it represented his piece a little more.

Here is the glazed version

i don't see how i can critique it, its wonderful. it has a very elvish maiden of the forest kind of natural feel to it if you know what i mean. i added it to my favs a few months ago but i can see why the ceramic group added it to their collection. This is true art, you expressing yourself and creating something both beautiful and meaningful.
