You should! It's actually fun. I use Photoshop, so when I'm adding a layer of color, I make sure I play around with the blending modes so I don't lose the shadows I created. I tend to use the color blend mode depending on how the color looks on the drawing.

Nice! great tips! I know I mess with Overlay and Soft Light a lot... but never from straight B&W! I totally started a piece with this technique already xD

Awesome! Glad I could help a bit. Also, when you fill a layer with a color mode, it's important to add more color variety so the image doesn't look flat. The first time I just added one color in color mode and the whole thing just looked flat until I added variety of colors on the same layer to make the image pop.
