Description A practice dragon that I made with a mechanical pencil. I think this is one of my most detailed dragons yet and I maybe will continue this style. I love doing a lot of details only my hand gets crampy. XD Advise always appreciated!

Okay, so I lied; I do that. I didn't wait 'til I got sleep to comment. I took one look at this and went "...need to....comment....NOW." And I gave in to this zombiefied voice because I'm really not all that tired. ^_^

So.
Wow.
That's an awesome amount of detail, there. I particularly love the subtle shading that's apparent (okay, so pretend that the words "subtle" and "apparent" actually go together in a coherent and non-oxymoronic way) - especially on the throat and back-o-the-neck plates. The direction of the lines sets both of them out and gives the neck that much more weight and reality. Also, the variation in the shapes of the throat plates - wonderful. At least on my dragons, I notice that when I throw the plates on, their shapes are all very regular and they give the dragon a pretty segmented look that I hate. And you've so nicely avoided that, here... (gee... I need to remember that with future plates... why on earth did I not realize that before?)

Breaking out into my biology-student mode, I can say that the lower jaw looks a mite too thick, and/or doesn't seem to have enough of a connection to the rest of the skull to provide adequate power and leverage that the current build of the jaw seems to denote a need for. ...I can try to clarify if that doesn't make enough sense.
The eye's placement also seems a bit too high to me, but I love the depth and sheen you've given it - it looks like an eye. It doesn't float on top of the head, it's in a socket in the skull, and you can tell. I also like the flanging leaf pattern set around the eye - gives a nice build-up from the rest of the skull.

I think also, the neck's connection to the skull is a bit too tight. That's a severe bend for the vertebrae to be going through, and neither the top, nor the underside of the neck really show the stretch or folding of the hide - though the plate-shading is good. So as it is, it looks a bit static - kinda like a carousel horse, y'know? The protrusions at the end of both the upper and lower mandible kind of flatten out the image there.... They need something to kind of separate them as " protrusions," instead of "major part of the skull." And oh, you've put both rows of teeth in there - excellent. Having only the foremost row really flattens out the skull, I think, so both is great.

Right, the musculature - Musn't forget that. While that muscle running down the length of the neck looks a bit straight, the fact that it looks clenched lends a lot of credibility to the head being pulled back. And the indent that's indicated on the back portion of the lower mandible - not the underside of the jaw, but the indent that's above (technically to the left of it) is wonderful. It makes the jaw look less like a sheaf of bone wrapped in skin and far more like a working moving part of a living creature. Oh, and the tongue: I love the thickness, and I love the texture - because yes, a tongue has texture. It's slimy, too, but it has texture. ^_^

Mmm...more niggling things that stand out to me.... I can't tell for certain due to the shading, but in some places - mostly around the edges of the head - the scales seem to have a bit of an issue forming around the shape of the dragon. I have this problem all the time. It's such a pain to make form-fitting scales, isn't it? But the variation you've got going in the scale sizing - again, great. The shading on the end of the snout.... It's good, but it quirks with the point of view in my mind, and I think it's because the direction is completely vertical. It's not that it looks flat - it doesn't. It just looks like the tip of the snout is being seen from a different angle than the rest of the dragon. I'm not sure how to fix this... I think some shading lines that are more parallel to the jawline might help...maybe.

The speckling on the ear/frill-thing and the back of the neck are a fantastic touch. The shading on the ear-thing itself also rocks, just so's y'know. It's got some thickness to it, while still looking very mobile and ....ear-like. Lame wording, I know, but true. It
looks good.

And because I'm horrendously eccentric at times and like to pick out the most inane details as my absolute favourite part of something, so I have found one here.
That little membrane (at least, that's what I'm assuming it is) running down between the spines on the neck. Yes, that is my absolute favourite part here. And I think I actually know why: It gives character.
I think there are too many dragons out there in the art world that simply go "RARGH!! I am spikey and spiney with attitude to spare and I shall kill you now!!!!"
Now, that's rather boring, isn't it? Very 2D, no depth... just... rar.
But that little character-giving membrane there changes things around to something more like, "RARGH!! Sure, I've got spines. I've also got a mate and 3 hatchlings back at the weyr, so get OFF MY FOOD!!!!"
More interesting now, isn't it? Yeah.
...I really hope that that didn't come off as completely nuts.

So....yeah.... When I started typing oh... an hour and a half ago, I wasn't tired... Now I am. But that, SunMoonDragoness, be what I think of that thar handsome beastie up thar, yar. Now, I be off to me bunk. Cheerio.
