Hmmm...it's a definite toss up. I really like both to tell you the truth. The first version added a bit more mystery to it. However the lighting in this one is just superb. I like 'em both!

I believe this one's the best in the whole series.
It's the one who appears do be "normal" and not over-processed.
Besides, this foreground adds a lot of impact.
The image is a little grainy, though, but probably just in the low res.

The grain seems to be caused by my layer technique. By duplicating a layer that has been adjusted using the channel mixer set to b/w and blended back using the soft light option. I pump up the colours and then fill/opacity it back into the orginal but it seems to accenuate or cause noise? Maybe I need to add a bit of guassian blurr to the adjustment layer... must have a go... any ideas on this tech?

Well... to be honest... no.
But adding a gaussian blur may do the job.
Or you can try NeatImage... it's a free software specially designed to remove noise.
Check it out and then tell me how it went!
Good luck!

this is *technically* perfect.... i kept going back and forth to the original and this one. although the original gives me a totally different mood, a darker not necessary gloomy but sentimental and this gives me the feeling of quiet and solitude. both works well.

we had a weird sky tonight in port.... sun under hazy rain clouds which lit up the sky orange over the CBD and a brilliant double rainbow shook our bells... and my camera at home in the unit! Would have been amaaaazing over the lighthouse but I was at work!

It's different now ... though I wouldn't say, that is it better ... except for the shadows, which tell the truth it looks like earlier in the day now ... I liked the dramatic feeling of the other version two ... the crop is a bit better now ... one thing that you should take a look at is the color noise on the water and the sky now beacause you boosted the dark areas so much ...

swings and roundabouts! I like the effect of a b/w softlight blend layer but it does add noise.... I haven't got round to getting neatimage.... should I?

I already have neatimage, I think you can d/l it free without paid... I really love this program, you can add your camera profile and it reduce very well the noise , you can add sharpness, many things like that !! I don't know if it worth the money... I never paid for something on the net... also, i'M totally agree with Andreas with his comment...

Try it first ... I can't tell if it's worth the money ... I'm actually quite happy with what the Photoshop Reduce Noise does and use it very often ...
