Description the U.S. Air Force's last T-37 "Mighty Tweets" flew off into the "wild blue yonder" for the last time.

the official retirement of the T-37 from American skies.

please watch the news story i shot for this and let me know what you think of it
JUST AN AMAZING DAY TO BE A PART OF [link]

Sheppard Air Force Base was the last base in the country to fly the Cessna 37 trainer jet, so friday, July 31st marks the end of an era not only for Sheppard – but for the entire Air Force.

Brig. General Kendall says it's fitting that the T-37 should retire in Wichita Falls, because it came to Texas originally, in 1956, when the Air Force was trying to find a plane suitable for pilot training. So he says it's come full circle.

The T-37 will be replaced by the T-6

I remember going to the Richmond Air Show here in Oz a couple of years back and they had a whole bunch of old planes on display. There were a few you could actually go inside of. The rest were fenced off, but the entire day was spectacular!
(This photo just reminded me of it. Hehe).

lol. Well, I can fly them, but I wouldn't be able to fly at top speeds and not to fight. Something about my reproductive system being on the inside...

huh

i havent heard much of that.. but doesnt suprise me
i do stories on base quite a bit..

that shocked me

As in they'll let you fly even if you can't see more than a couple of inches in front of you? Gosh. But there'd be restrictions, right? Like you'd have to have visual aid, glasses, lenses or something, right?

Wow. Well, I guess as long as it works there shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Good stuff IIRC, the T-37 was the model used in the stage before pilots were given a combat role.

Well, unfortunately the changes got introduced the year I became too old to enlist anyway (2 months after my birthday to be exact). Talking about bad timing. But it's cool, I don't think I could have survived the early mornings anyway

davincipoppalag In reply to SublimeBudd [2009-08-02 00:31:21 +0000 UTC]

Yea.. I lived at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage,, SAC base.. during the Cuban Missile crisis....that was kinda tense.. we lived on Harding AFB in Cheyenne Wyoming.. I'm not sure but I think they had a couple of tactical fighter wings there. I was kinda young.. I know it was near the arena where they held the Frontier Days rodeos every year..about a half mile from the house.. that was cool.. we were at Rome AFB in Syracuse NY.. and McGuire AFB in Jersey.. I was actually born on base at Randolph Field in San Antonio Texas.. I think that was a big training site too. ..
