How much would you charge for one of these?

From time-to-time I make proton packs for people. generally an 85% accurate Proton Pack, like the one seen here, is $950.00 plus shipping cost.

What are the inaccuracies? I haven't researched the differences.

The shell itself has some measurement issues with the boxy looking shapes, and the rib numbering is wrong on the Top box and the Left (Blue power meter) box. There is no Aluminium plate with brass rod attached to the top of the Ion Arm. I have a copper tube sticking out of the Ion Arm wall where all that should be, so at least I attempted to have something there. The particle wand is missing the Mounting plate on the bottom of it,a s well as a couple detail pieces on the front grip. The cyclotron bumper shock is the wrong size. It should be much smaller in diameter, and taller in height. Couple more minor things as well, but those are the main details.

I gotcha. Still, it looks fantastic. One of these days, I'll do a 100% accurate pack.

I like the results... makes me want to do it myself, but parts going anywhere between $500 and $900 is still a bit hefty, but I guess if I wait longer, it'll only be pricier...

It does add up quick, but the project is so worth doing if you are a GB fan and love owning movie props.
The good thing about the GB Proton Pack is you can build it in stages. Start off with the Alice Frame, the main pack Shell, cut out the window holes, add the colored cables, and then add more parts over time. You can spread the cost over a year or two and not notice the impact as much as you would plopping down a huge chunk of money all at once. (Like what you'd do for a Stormtrooper/Darth Vader armor)

Check the side bar on my GB Proton Pack tutorial page. Prices will fluctuate as the price of plastic fluctuates, so this page will have the most up-to-date price.

It I build one, it would not be finished quickly. Usually a proton pack takes me 12 weeks to assemble.
I am always selling the black shells of the Proton packs to fans, but rarely build a finished pack. Usually they cost $950.00 plus shipping, and that dissuades most buyers.

$950.00?! Don't you have any already made that you could sell for less by chance?
π: 0 β©: 1
StudioCreations In reply to Nall608 [2010-09-29 13:53:37 +0000 UTC]
$950.00 is the going rate for an 85% accurate pack. What is 25+ hours of any ones time worth, plus the material costs ($250-$500 depending what one may already have on hand)

I would recommend checking out ebay.com right now , for purchasing a GB proton pack. Quite a few are up there and at a good price. During the rush up to Halloween (Oct 31), it's tough to find a proton pack for under $1600, but during the winter months a lot of people need the extra cash and will sell their proton packs for any amount.

StudioCreations In reply to patowanlearner [2010-09-08 13:24:33 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that does not really give me enough time to make the pack. Usually a proton pack takes me 12 weeks to build, so even at 60% accurate (probably leaving off the Ion Arm, PPD cylinder and a few particle wand greeblies) would take me 6-7 weeks, and that leaves little/no time for shipping.
60% accurate pack would cost around $800.00 plus shipping.

Hey man, 2 questions, 1 can you possibly make a list of parts you used? But Im looking for like 100% accurate with the lights and sounds etc.. and 2, How much did it cost? I want to make one or pay someone to make one for me, I want one sooooo bad!!!!
My email is r_biberhofer@hotmail.com
Thanks,

Rob,
I'll list the parts in the Photo description now (if it will take the long list). As for the cost... For a 100% accurate pack, look to spend $500-$900 on parts alone, depending how accurate you want to get acquiring all the identified "real-world" items. Resin cast copies keep the final price lower.

I am working on a 100% finished proton pack tutorial right now. I already have a basic tutorial on how I made the black case that makes up the main part of the proton pack. That's here... [link]
I guess my firs tip would be to collect as many photos of the real GB proton packs as you can. Not fan made proton packs, but the Movie used ones. GBfans.com has some of the best reference photos on their site, buried in the equipment section.
Once you have the photos, print them out and compile them into a 3 ringer binder, this way you can easily reference them as you build your pack. Going back and forth to your computer/laptop to look at reference gets to be a pain, but that's just my take on it, maybe there are better ways t scroll through the images quicker than what I know of.
Reference photos are the biggest hurdle to start you on your journey.
Message/Question me back and Ill give you some more tips as I think of them.
