Description Based on ASOIAF.Β

This is my first painting of Daenerys

I made this in my SmArt School class with Todd Lockwood. If you're interested in improving your art, you should check it out. The class has been super fun and I've learned so much!(www.smarterartschool.com)

Awesome! Love the dragon. And the overall staging. It's really Gladiator meets Dragons.

Although I'm hoping the show dargons will be smaller.Β

um ... in the books ALL of the Dragons have TWO LEGS, two wing & nor fore-legs. Ive seen several brilliant ASOIAF-inspired works of art w/ the dragons & they are all ruined by the complete disregard for this.

Oh I totally understand! If only spiders had a few less legs, I think I would be less offended by them, too.

Absolutely gorgeous!!! I love that you made Drogon as described in the books, with four legs instead of like a Wyvern; and Daenerys' white adds such a gorgeous contrast!
The only thing that I would suggest touching up on would be adding more red to Drogon's colour (his horns and the spinal plates), But such perfection!

loved this scene.. and thank god you gave Drogon four legs instead of making him a wyvern and making him walk around on his wings >< gah i was so angry when they did that in the HBO series... anyways.. amazing piece

Haha, yeah I've heard a few comments long those lines. I really like dragons with four legs, that why he has four. I like making art "based" on ASOIAF, but I don't always follow all the descriptions in the books. My hope is that, even if you've never heard of the series you can still enjoy the painting

Yes my apologies that I didn't comment on the art piece itself. I still think it's a great work of art and I don't judge it because it's not accurate or something. I like it and that's the end of it.

Most artists depict them as such because as I said they have two legs, two wings. With all respect to the artist who made this picture. I don't mind that she gave him four legs. It's a great image. But the fact you're angry at HBO is what I find really Β strange. They're accurate to the source material. So you're getting upset over your own misunderstanding of what is in the books.Β

Cascador In reply to uzukitty18 [2014-04-01 05:06:08 +0000 UTC]

No, in the books they are also described as four-limbed (two legs and two foreclaws). They even say on the wiki that they are described more as wyverns, rather than dragons. So if you want to blame someone, blame George. Then again I don't really care about the difference between dragon and wyvern. It's stupid really. That was also the big argument with Smaug, because he was depicted as a wyvern supposedly in the last Hobbit film. It's only a problem if you make it one. Smaug looked like a really cool dragon in the last film, and so are the dragons in the series.Β

In the books they are described as you see in HBO. If GRRM says those are dragons, they are dragons.
