Some cats and dogs get along, but it all depends on the animal's personalities and how they were raised. A full grown cat will be less accepting of another full grown cat than it would be of a kitten. My cats still occasionally fight, but a cat vs. a dog in a real fight is no match. Maybe later in life you'll get a cat, or a friend or relative will have a cat you can visit. 
The only cat I got to visit when I was little was my grandma's black cat Shadow... otherwise, everyone in my family seemed to have at least one beagle.

well my sisters dog is the one that likes to kill cats but at the moment her back legs don't work any more its sad really
i don't like her cus she killed my last cat so iv disliked the dog ever sence but over the years iv forgiven her
but she has lost power to her back legsand my mom said it would be a good time to get a cat sence well she can't chase it
but then they were talking about putting her down cus there is is only like a 20% chance she will get to regain her back legs
but she has to lose like 6 pounds before she can and she is over wait ans has lost control of her balder and her snecing of at night from her bed to eat normal dog food is not helping her wait proplum

ya it is sad and i was promised one a long time before the dogs were born that
i was going to have a cat my dad said he would get me one wen i terned 10
but he never did
