Description Stottys Terragen Art...

Dunno quite what your all going to make of this, my wife reckons its phallic - well that wasn't my meaning when doing this, I started out trying to reproduce Mitten Buttes in Monument Valley, US, but got a little too carried away with the height adjustments hmmm, anyways, I know its a little too smooth and peaky to be real, but I hope you still like it as it is. The final render (print size) took 31 hours to complete.

whui... a very nice piece... texturing is nice... and i like the look, as you said, which isn't looking very realistic i even like the sunrays... and the sky. it also has very pleasant colors... and it's very pleasant to look at this pic as a whole reminds me a bit on an old game - jedi knight: dark forces... the valley of the jedi

this is amazing. the textures, as in all of your work, are just amazing and the shadows casted onto the main phalic piece look perfect.

...wow. At first glance, I thought it was a vacation photo to the mountains. Beautiful work and a very clean render. Don't worry about what your wife says. Although, if you added two bushes at the base...then we'd have a problem

wow man, thats really awesom. the angle and the rays of the sun really capture the desert feel. the one thing that gets me though is the rock layering, especially on the spire that close up in the shade... very sharply defined layers..maby fuzz it out.

i really admire your work.

Yeah, its good - I like the beams of light especially (I'm always a sucker for those )

You are right about the 'not-quite-realism' though, but you have the different sandy texture layers built up really well anyway, so perhaps use that set of surfaces another day

I wouldn't say phalic, more like a tree stump to me, but each to their own

Oooh, just noticed the little patches of grass at the base there; nice touch

And, omg, 31 hours!?!? Well, at least I don't have to worry about rendering for that long with no prints account, yay

Dislike - the formation of rock on the bottom left dosen't intersect the edge of the piece. (crop tighter/photoshop it?)
Like - Colors, very well planned out and harmonious colors. Textures, realistic textures, not too bumpy, not too smooth. Terrain, while not realistic, very awe inspiring, with the combination of superb textures you want to think it's real terrain.

Ignore aleks and his comment on the grass, the grass is clutch. Some deserts happen to have grass. (Desert refers to areas of limited precipitation, not vegitation aleks)

Okay, enough commenting, enough arguing with aleks. I'm done (excellent job stotty)

This is beautiful! Probably one of the most photo-realistic of your Terragen art that I have scene, the textures on the rocks are lovely, the entire warmness of the scene, and the rays of sunlight are great. Very nice one!!

When I saw the first part (top part) of this image I was thinking "ugh, but this is a photo. I wonder why stotty placed it in indyart" but when the rest of the image loaded I realized it was a render ! That has to be good if you can trick the eye
I love this, the sky is amazing and so realistic... the textures are brilliant and the way you composed everything is well done. Great imagination and for that you get
I'd love to see more stuff like this.

Well, I wouldn't think it's really phallic...but it conjures up images of a place of meditation for some wizard or, perhaps, an Indian Sage.

Excellent print, m'friend. I love the way this turned out.

kevinwoodPHOTO [2002-11-10 15:59:44 +0000 UTC]

Overall a very nice render mate. Being that this looks like a 'desert' type scene, I'd say to take out the grass textures and just put in more dirt/rock texturing. The pillars look pretty cool actually and I like the overlay you did to add lines in there, or is that just overworked textures to make them thin lines?

The lighting and light rays in this are really good, except it seems to bring out a few jagged edges here and there, but honestly not that much.

A very nice scene you've got here though ..

Keep up the excellent work
